This article explores the effectiveness of preventive interventions to smoking initiation in adolescents in school environment; it shows relevant aspects that account for the success or failure of those interventions and provides to professionals interested in the topic a selection of preventive strategies based on scientific evidence with the greatest impact when they are applied. It is concluded that the effectiveness of prevention programs on cigarette smoking initiation is partial and limited, because other interventions such as regulation of smoke-free areas, high price or control of sale and distribution are as important as the direct action on the new potential smokers.

Objective: Determining predictive factors related to well-being amongst adolescent students in Cartagena, Colombia.
Methods: An analytical, cross-sectional study was designed using a random sample of adolescent students who were enrolled in public and private schools in Cartagena. The students filled out an individual, anonymous questionnaire to investigate selfesteem, the intensity of their religious feeling (attitude towards Christianity), their general well-being (depressive symptoms) and level of family functioning.
The short form of the Francis Scale of Attitude Toward Christianity (L. J. Francis, 1992) is a 7-item Likert-type scale that shows high homogeneity among adolescents.
