Introduction: Liver injury is a treatment-related adverse event (liver-TRAE), one of the most common complications of atezolizumab plus bevacizumab (Atez/Bev) therapy, when treating unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC). Fever following immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy may predict ICI-induced liver injury in various malignancy types. However, the association between fever and liver-TRAEs in patients with uHCC treated with Atez/Bev has not been investigated.

Purpose: There is growing evidence that preterm infants born to mothers with chorioamnionitis (CAM) have increased risk of various neonatal morbidities and long-term neurological disorders; however, the effect of CAM on postnatal growth remains insufficiently investigated. This study evaluated the effect of histological CAM on postnatal growth trajectories in very preterm infants using a nationwide neonatal database in Japan.

Method: A multicenter retrospective study was conducted using clinical data of 4220 preterm neonates who weighed ≤ 1500 g and were born at < 32 weeks of gestation between 2003-2017 (CAM group: n = 2110; non-CAM group: n = 2110).

Article Synopsis
  • CAPOS syndrome is a rare genetic disorder linked to a specific mutation in the ATP1A3 gene, characterized by symptoms like cerebellar ataxia, areflexia, pes cavus, optic atrophy, and sensorineural hearing loss.
  • The case describes a patient who experienced recurring fevers leading to hearing difficulties around age 74 months, marking a decline in his previously acquired speech.
  • Genetic testing confirmed the ATP1A3 mutation, and the study found that the different responses in auditory tests (ABR and ASSR) were due to the mutation causing desynchronization in neural firing.

Interactions between lineage-determining and activity-dependent transcription factors determine single-cell identity and function within multicellular tissues through incompletely known mechanisms. By assembling a single-cell atlas of chromatin state within human islets, we identified β cell subtypes governed by either high or low activity of the lineage-determining factor pancreatic duodenal homeobox-1 (PDX1). β cells with reduced PDX1 activity displayed increased chromatin accessibility at latent nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) enhancers.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined the timing and effects of durvalumab therapy after concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) in patients with unresectable stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
  • - Conducted as a phase II clinical trial, 47 out of 50 treated patients showed a 1-year progression-free survival (PFS) rate of 75.0%, with an objective response rate of 78.7% and a median PFS of 14.2 months.
  • - The findings suggest that starting durvalumab immediately after CCRT is both effective and safe, with similar rates of serious side effects like pneumonitis to previous studies.

Misalignment of feeding rhythms with the light-dark cycle leads to disrupted peripheral circadian clocks and obesity. Conversely, restricting feeding to the active period mitigates metabolic syndrome through mechanisms that remain unknown. We found that genetic enhancement of adipocyte thermogenesis through ablation of the zinc finger protein 423 (ZFP423) attenuated obesity caused by consumption of a high-fat diet during the inactive (light) period by increasing futile creatine cycling in mice.
