Application of a machine learning and optimization method to predict patellofemoral instability risk factors in children and adolescents.

Purpose: Conservative treatment remains the standard approach for first-time patellar dislocations. While risk factors for patellofemoral instability, a common paediatric injury, are well-established in adults, data concerning the progression of paediatric recurrent patellar dislocation remain scarce. A reproducible method was developed to quantitatively assess the patellofemoral morphology and anatomic risk factors in paediatric patients using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and machine learning analysis.

Previous studies have suggested that soy sauce contains specific bioactive components and various biological activities of soy sauce have been observed. Soy soluble polysaccharide (SSPS), a predominant bioactive compound in soy sauce, has numerous pharmacological actions, including anti‑inflammatory and immunomodulating activities. In the current study, the apoptotic effects of SSPS were investigated in HCT‑116 human colon cancer cells.

Piceatannol is a phenolic stilbenoid and a metabolite of resveratrol which is found in red wine. Piceatannol (PIC) commonly exhibits anti-inflammatory, antiplatelet and antiproliferative activity. In the present study, the anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory mechanisms of PIC were investigated by examining the effects of PIC on pro‑inflammatory cytokine release and phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinases (ERK, JNK and p38) in a human mast cell line.

Background And Objectives: It has been demonstrated that the anomalous origin of coronary arteries (AOCA) are generally asymptomatic and rare diseases. However, some cases can cause severe life threatening events. To detect these anomalies, coronary angiographies and autopsies were used to detect coronary artery anomalies, but these procedures have limitations because of their invasiveness.

A case of balanced type double aortic arch diagnosed incidentally by transthoracic echocardiography in an asymptomatic adult patient.

A 36-year-old male patient with no remarkable medical history was admitted to our hospital for a health check up. On chest radiography, bilateral aortic notches at the level of aortic arch were shown suggesting aortic arch anomaly without any clinical symptoms. Two aortic arches were almost same-in-size on suprasternal view of transthoracic echocardiography.

Vascular endothelial cell activation by cytokines and other pro-inflammatory mediators is an initial event in atherosclerosis and in other vascular diseases. Simvastatin, a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, suppressed both tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha- and angiotensin (Ang) II-induced monocyte adhesion to endothelial cells (an initial step in vascular inflammation) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Diphenyleneiodonium and apocynin, both NADPH oxidase inhibitors, also suppressed TNF-alpha-induced ROS and monocyte-endothelial cell adhesion, demonstrating that TNF-alpha-induced monocyte adhesion is mediated through ROS produced by NADPH oxidase activation.

Inhibitory effects of Zoagumhwan water extract and berberine on angiotensin II-induced monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP)-1 expression and monocyte adhesion to endothelial cells.

Angiotensin II (Ang II), a potent vasoconstrictor, has been implicated in vascular inflammation through induction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and pro-inflammatory genes. Among the chemokines, monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP)-1 induced by Ang II acts as a central mediator of the inflammatory responses. In the present study, we found that the water extract of ZoaGumHwan (ZGH), a Korean herbal remedy, dose-dependently inhibited Ang II-induced U937 monocyte adhesion to human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and mRNA expression of MCP-1 in HUVECs and C-C chemokine receptor 2 (CCR-2) in U937 cells.
