Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) and mitral regurgitation (MR) are closely linked, and one may worsen the other. We investigated the impact of baseline AF in patients with MR undergoing transcatheter edge-to-edge repair.

Methods: One-hundred-fifty-six consecutive patients with symptomatic heart failure (HF) undergoing mitral valve transcatheter edge-to-edge repair for severe MR were studied.

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a standard treatment for severe aortic stenosis (AS), but outcomes vary based on flow state. Low-flow, low-gradient aortic stenosis (LFLG AS) is a heterogenous condition and growing evidence suggests that response to TAVR differs by subtype. However, the generalizability of these studies to U.

Background: Racial and ethnic disparities in cardiovascular disease outcomes, including percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), are well-documented. However, studies do not stratify certain subgroups, such as separating South Asian and East Asian patients, who exhibit varying burdens of cardiovascular disease and PCI outcomes. Additionally, socioeconomic status (SES) further complicates outcomes, with low SES serving as an independent predictor of adverse outcomes post-PCI.

Purpose Of Review: Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG), which arises from defects in triglyceride-rich lipoprotein (TRL) metabolism, is associated with increased morbidity and mortality from pancreatitis and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Traditional therapies, including fibrates and omega-3 fatty acids, have shown limited efficacy in controlling triglyceride (TG) levels and cardiovascular risk. This review explores the role of emerging therapies that target TG and TRL metabolism via novel biochemical pathways.

Background: Patients with low-flow, low-gradient (LFLG) aortic stenosis (AS) have precarious hemodynamics and are a fragile population for intervention. Quantification of aortic valve calcification (AVC) severity is a critical component of the evaluation for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR); this study aims to further clarify its utility for risk stratification in LFLG AS.

Methods: This retrospective study evaluated 467 patients with LFLG AS undergoing TAVR at a large quaternary-care hospital from January 2019 to December 2021.

The importance of data charts is self-evident, given their ability to express complex data in a simple format that facilitates quick and easy comparisons, analysis, and consumption. However, the inherent visual nature of the charts creates barriers for people with visual impairments to reap the associated benefits to the same extent as their sighted peers. While extant research has predominantly focused on understanding and addressing these barriers for blind screen reader users, the needs of low-vision screen magnifier users have been largely overlooked.

Objective: To characterize the use of race and socioeconomic status (SES) variables in clinical otolarynogologic research.

Methods: Databases were queried for all articles published in 2016 issues of 5 major otolaryngologic journals. One thousand, one hundred and forty of 1593 articles abstracted met inclusion criteria for analysis.

Purpose: Public access to medical information has increased dramatically with the growth and accessibility of the Internet. The goal of this study is to characterize how parents use the Internet to understand and make decisions about their child's otolaryngologic surgery.

Materials And Methods: A survey was distributed to parents of pediatric patients undergoing otolaryngologic procedures to assess if and how parents gather information about their child's surgery.

Objective: Given the current opioid epidemic and the fact that children continue to be undertreated for pain following surgeries, it is important to understand care-givers' attitudes toward post-operative opioid use.

Design: A survey was distributed to caregivers of pediatric patients undergoing otolaryngologic procedures.

Setting: An academic hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

Objective: Social media is playing an increasingly important role in medicine as a tool for patients and their families to find information and connect with others. The goal of this study is to understand parental views on if and how social media should be incorporated into pediatric otolaryngology by physicians and hospitals.

Methods: A survey was distributed to parents of pediatric otolaryngologic patients to assess views on professional social media use by physicians and hospitals.

Objective: Adult-onset laryngomalacia is a rare clinical entity that has been infrequently reported. This study aims to evaluate the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of adult-onset laryngomalacia through literature review and report of a case.

Methods: PubMed and Google Scholar databases were queried for articles published from 1960 to 2019 including only patients aged 18 years and older.
