Background: To attain universal health care, health managers need to monitor progress in service uptake, changes and geographic coverage. Although routine health management information systems are now well established in many resource-constrained countries, such data have not yet been used to examine geographic access trends over time.
Objective: This study aims to quantify changing patterns of geographic access to healthcare in the Volta Region, Ghana.
Introduction: Stillbirths are disproportionately concentrated in sub-Saharan Africa, where geographical accessibility to basic/comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care (BEmONC and CEmONC) significantly influences maternal and perinatal outcomes. This study describes stillbirth rates within healthcare facilities in The Gambia and examines their distribution in relation to the geographical accessibility of these facilities.
Methods: We analysed 97 276 births recorded between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2018, from 10 major public healthcare facilities in The Gambia.
Objective: The study examines the geographic accessibility of Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric Care (CEmONC) among women residing in the slums of Dakar.
Design: The study is a cross-sectional geographic analysis of caesarean care utilisation in health facilities offering the service in Dakar.
Setting: The study was conducted in urban slum areas in Dakar.
Many measles endemic countries with suboptimal coverage levels still rely on vaccination campaigns to fill immunity gaps and boost control efforts. Depending on local epidemiological patterns, national or targeted campaigns are implemented, following which post-campaign coverage surveys (PCCSs) are conducted to evaluate their performance, particularly in terms of reaching previously unvaccinated children. Due to limited resources, PCCS surveys are designed to be representative at coarse spatial scales, often masking important heterogeneities in coverage that could enhance the identification of areas of poor performance for follow-up via routine immunization strategies.

Among other focus areas, the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 11 seek to advance progress toward universal coverage of maternal, neonatal, and child health (MNCH) services and access to safe and affordable housing and basic services by 2030. Governments and development agencies have historically neglected the health and well-being associated with living in urban slums across major capital cities in sub-Saharan Africa since health policies and programs have tended to focus on people living in rural communities. Availability of emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC) is a strong supply side measure of essential health system capacity that is closely and causally linked to maternal mortality reduction and fundamentally to achieving universal health coverage. The World Health Organization's indicator "Availability of EmONC facilities" was prioritized as a core indicator to prevent maternal death. The indicator focuses on whether there are sufficient emergency care facilities to meet the population need, but not all facilities designated as providing EmONC function as such.

Methods: Using data from the 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey and geospatial data sets, we fitted Bayesian multilevel binomial and multinomial logistic regression models to analyse independent predictors of three vaccination outcomes: receipt of the first dose of Pentavalent vaccine (containing diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, Hemophilus influenzae type B and Hepatitis B vaccines) (PENTA1) (n = 6059) and receipt of the third dose having received the first (PENTA3/1) (n = 3937) in children aged 12-23 months, and receipt of measles vaccine (MV) (n = 11839) among children aged 12-35 months.

Although there is widespread evidence of a digital divide for other digital resources and infra-structure, it is unclear how commercial geospatial data resources are distributed relative to health need.
Methods: To examine the distribution of commercial geospatial data resources relative to health needs, we assembled coverage and quality metrics for commercial geocoding, neighbourhood characterisation, and travel time calculation resources for 183 countries.
Objective: To identify and evaluate clusters of births that occurred outside health facilities in Ghana for targeted intervention.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted using a convenience sample of live births registered in Ghanaian health facilities from January 1 to December 31, 2014. Data were extracted from the district health information system.
Objective: To provide clear policy directions for gaps in the provision of signal function services and sub-regions requiring priority attention using data from the 2010 Ghana Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC) survey.
Methods: Using 2010 survey data, the fraction of facilities with only one or two signal functions missing was calculated for each facility type and EmONC designation. Thematic maps were used to provide insight into inequities in service provision.
