Due to the recent unprecedented global rise of Candidozyma auris in hospital environments the members of the Candidozyma haemuli species complex have raised significant interest of clinicians and researchers. Until the finding of C. auris, the species complex did not receive much attention as the known pathogenic species were only rarely encountered in hospitals and clinical diagnostic laboratories.

Gaining insight into physical activity using smartwatches could improve understanding of individual potential during treatment, support early recognition of aberrant physical activity, and enable tailored support.
Objective: This study aimed to explore the feasibility, barriers, facilitators, and considerations of long-term physical activity tracking using a smartwatch during childhood cancer treatment.
Background: Acquired hypothalamic dysfunction, occurring at diagnosis or after treatment for a childhood (supra)sellar brain tumor, can have severe consequences. While morbid obesity and pituitary dysfunction are easily recognized, the other consequences of hypothalamic dysfunction (HD), such as hypothermia, sleep disturbance, or behavioral issues, are less well-known and may be overlooked. In addition, hypothalamic dysfunction may present differently in each patient hampering diagnostic and therapeutic efficacy.

A comprehensive systematic literature search was performed on MEDLINE (PubMed), EMBASE, Web of Science, Scopus, ProQuest, Cochrane Trials, and Cochrane Reviews. Databases were searched up to 30 September 2024.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed of patients treated according to the ANLL-97/AML-12 (N = 116), AML-15 (N = 60), or DB AML-01 (N = 67) protocols between 1998 and 2014.
Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of elevated insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 in children with suprasellar low-grade glioma (LGG) and explore the course of IGF-1 over time and its association with anthropometrics, hypothalamic syndrome, tumour characteristics, and tumour behaviour.
Design: This retrospective study included children from the Netherlands and the United Kingdom diagnosed with a suprasellar LGG under the age of 18 between 2003 and 2023, with a minimum 1-year follow-up. Elevated IGF-1 was defined as IGF-1 standard deviation score (SDS) >+2.
Background: Pediatric cancer diagnosis and treatment reduce Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL). The Pediatric Quality of Life (PedsQL) Cancer Module is the most commonly used cancer specific HRQoL instrument, but most studies included relatively small cohorts and no reference scores are available. The development of a PedsQL Cancer Module benchmark, based on a large population of pediatric cancer patients, may benefit future research by providing insight into issues children encounter during treatment or clinical trials.

However, the incidence of walking inability, the time until onset and potential risk factors are unknown.
Methods: We retrospectively retrieved data in ALL patients (≤ 18 years).

Background: Insomnia is common during and after childhood cancer and associated with negative health outcomes and impaired quality of life. Many adolescents and young adults do not receive treatment. Internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (iCBT-i) can fill this gap.

Methods: A multi-national panel of 23 individuals was convened to develop a clinical practice guideline (CPG) on the use of food restrictions to prevent infections in paediatric patients with cancer and haematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) recipients.

Objectives: The Pediatric Sepsis Definition Task Force developed and validated a new organ dysfunction score, the Phoenix Sepsis Score (PSS), as a predictor of mortality in children with suspected or confirmed infection. The PSS showed improved performance compared with prior scores. However, the criteria were derived in a general pediatric population, in which only 10% had cancer.

Here, we assess the prevalence and determinants of DM in our nationwide CCS cohort.
Design/methods: In this cross-sectional study, the prevalence of DM was assessed in 2,338 CCS, using the Lifelines cohort (n=132,226 adults with no history of cancer) as a reference.
Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is used to restore bone marrow function after high-dose chemotherapy. For apheresis, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) is standard of care, but obtaining sufficient stem cells can be challenging. Other mobilization agents include plerixafor and PEGylated G-CSF (PEG-G-CSF).

Methods: In total, 2338 adult childhood cancer survivors (CCS) were cross-sectionally assessed for the prevalence of MetS, using the Lifelines cohort (N = 132,226 adults without a history of cancer) as references. The prevalence of MetS was clinically assessed using existing classifications, as well as an alternative method using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry fat% instead of waist circumference to define abdominal adiposity.
We studied nosocomial transmission of multidrug-resistant bla-containing Klebsiella pneumoniae ST147 in a Dutch pediatric oncology center. Whole-genome multilocus sequence typing revealed two genetic clusters consisting of 2 and 5 K. pneumoniae isolates, both from Ukrainian medical evacuees and Dutch patients.

Background: Red blood cell (RBC) transfusions play an important role in supportive care in children and neonates with cancer. However, in current clinical practice, evidence-based recommendations are lacking on when to administer prophylactic RBC transfusions. To address this gap, a clinical practice guideline (CPG) was developed to systematically review the available evidence and provide recommendations for clinicians.

Since nutritional status of children with cancer is already vulnerable, any detrimental effects on food intake should be prevented. Therefore, understanding the exact relationship between chemosensory changes and dietary intake, eating behavior, and other domains such as health-related quality of life (HRQoL), is important for improving outcomes.

Methods: CCS from the Dutch Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (DCCSS)-LATER cohort (diagnosed 1963-2001) part 2 (age ≥ 18 years, diagnosed < 18 years, ≥ 5 years since diagnosis) completed questionnaires on psychosocial risk and protective factors (Benefit and Burden Scale, Illness Cognition Questionnaire, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and Impact of Cancer Scale), and psychosocial outcomes (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Self-Rating Scale for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, TNO-AZL Questionnaire for Adult Health-Related Quality of Life, and Short Form-36). Associations were assessed with regression analysis, adjusting for attained age, sex, number of health conditions, and time since diagnosis, while correcting for multiple testing (p < 0.
Purpose: Splenectomy might be a risk factor for valvular heart disease (VHD) in adult Hodgkin lymphoma survivors. As this risk is still unclear for childhood cancer survivors (CCS), the aim of this study is to evaluate the association between treatments affecting splenic function (splenectomy and radiotherapy involving the spleen) and VHD in CCS.
Methods: CCS were enrolled from the DCCSS-LATER cohort, consisting of 6,165 five-year CCS diagnosed between 1963 and 2002.
The trajectory of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is often accompanied by physically disabling complications that impair physical performance of pediatric patients. However, knowledge about when impairments in physical performance arise and the factors contributing to these impairments is limited. Therefore, we conducted a retrospective analysis of physical performance 100 days post-HSCT in patients aged 3-18 years.

We performed a trial to investigate whether intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) prophylaxis in pediatric patients with ALL could prevent admissions for fever. This randomized controlled trial was a subtrial of the national Dutch multicenter ALL study.
