Accuracy of volume measurements by a clinical spirometer in multiple veterinary hospitals.

Introduction: Spirometry devices, which are components of many anaesthesia machines, are commonly used to assess lung mechanics during anaesthesia. Spirometry calibration usually adheres to manufacturer recommendations without established guidelines. Although more accurate and less variable than inbuilt spirometry in certain General Electric anaesthesia ventilators, near-patient spirometry lacks adequate evaluation.

Healthy nonobese bitches maintain acceptable spontaneous ventilation during laparoscopic ovariectomies.

Objective: To determine whether end-tidal CO2 (Petco2), tidal volume (Vt), inspiratory minute volume (V.i), and respiratory rate (RR) remain within reference limits for spontaneously breathing dogs undergoing laparoscopic ovariectomy; characterize changes in these variables over time; and record the proportion of dogs requiring mechanical ventilation on the basis of predetermined criteria.

Animals: 22 client-owned dogs.

Anaesthetic management and complications of canine adrenalectomies: 41 cases (2007-2017).

Little information is available about the management of adrenalectomies in veterinary anaesthesia. The aim of this study was to describe the anaesthetic techniques, the complication rate and outcome of these cases. Data were collected retrospectively from patients' records.

Evaluation of the Parasympathetic Tone Activity (PTA) index to assess the analgesia/nociception balance in anaesthetised dogs.

The Parasympathetic Tone Activity (PTA) is an index based on the analysis of heart rate variability that has been recently developed to assess the analgesia/nociception balance in anaesthetised animals. The present study aimed to evaluate its performance in dogs undergoing surgery. Thirty dogs admitted for elective surgeries, were anaesthetised with a standardised protocol.
