Introduction: Barth syndrome (BTHS) is an ultra-rare genetic disease caused by a mutation in the gene, located on the X chromosome. This gene codes for the protein tafazzin, which is involved in the metabolism of the mitochondrial phospholipid - cardiolipin. Symptoms of this genetic defect include dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), skeletal myopathy, neutropenia, growth retardation, reduced cholesterol levels, increased serum lactic acid levels, and hypoglycemia in the neonatal period.

Our registry study aimed to compare postoperative and follow-up data between patients who underwent isolated coronary artery surgery with preoperative chronic dialysis and patients with preoperative severe renal impairment who did not require chronic dialysis.
Methods: We analyzed 157 948 consecutive adult patients in the Polish National Registry of Cardiac Surgical Procedures (KROK Registry) scheduled for isolated coronary artery surgery between January 2010 and December 2023.

Introduction: Obliterative bronchiolitis, the clinical manifestation of bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS), is a major complication of lung transplantation and one of the primary causes of chronic lung allograft dysfunction leading to poor survival outcomes.
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and outcomes of antireflux surgery in lung transplant recipients (LTRs) with BOS and associated gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Materials And Methods: This single-center study included 8 consecutive patients at a median (interquartile range [IQR]) age of 29 (25-46) years who underwent bilateral lung transplantation and subsequent antireflux surgery due to BOS.
Background: Coronary angiography has limited value in predicting subsequent events in cases of no or mild cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV). We aimed to assess the prognostic value of angiography-based vessel fractional flow reserve (vFFR) in orthotopic heart transplant recipients.
Material And Methods: The study retrospectively included patients who underwent baseline coronary angiography after orthotopic heart transplant between 2014 and 2023 and had no obstructive CAV.
Background: This multicentre study aimed to investigate the impact of deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) on long-term survival among patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) using multiple arterial grafting (MAG) or single artery with saphenous vein grafts (SAG).
Methods: Data were obtained from the Polish National Registry of Cardiac Surgery Procedures database. Between January 2012 and December 2020, 81,136 patients who underwent CABG for multivessel disease were included in the study.
Despite widespread implementation of intravascular techniques in cardiovascular medicine, combined aortic valve replacement (AVR) and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) have still been standard of surgical treatment. A purpose of this multicenter retrospective cohort study was to assess an impact of female sex on early outcomes and late survival rate following simultaneous AVR + CABG. This study comprised 12,626 patients (30.

The application of TachoSil adhesive is becoming increasingly popular in surgical procedures. A special area of surgical medicine is cardiac surgery, where the adhesive makes it possible to provide hemostasis when classic anastomotic methods are insufficient. There are numerous studies available demonstrating the perioperative efficacy of TachoSil, and its ease of use in the human population.

However, real-world data, especially regarding post-discharge outcomes, from multicenter registries are scarce but needed.
Aims: To evaluate the in-hospital and mid-term outcomes of patients undergoing TAVI in all Polish centers between 2019 and 2023.
After transplantation, systematically monitoring and assessing the risk of transplanted organ rejection is crucial. Current methods involving immunosuppressant monitoring, the assessment of organ function, and biopsies are insufficient for predicting rejection. However, regular determination of torque teno virus (TTV) load after transplantation may prove to be a useful parameter for monitoring immunosuppression efficacy.

Aims: To evaluate the outcomes of coronary artery bypass surgery in patients aged ≥75 years, focusing on the survival benefits of different surgical techniques and graft types.
Material And Methods: This retrospective cohort study analyzed data from the Polish National Registry of Cardiac Surgery Procedures (2012-2022) for patients aged ≥75 years undergoing isolated coronary artery bypass surgery.

Background: Cardiogenic shock (CS) remains the leading cause of poor prognosis in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), sustaining a high mortality rate of 40 to 50% within 30 days.
Aims: In this unique analysis of two national all-comers, real-life registries including patients with AMI complicated by CS, for whom early revascularization was planned, we aimed to compare the effect of percutaneous coronary revascularization (PCI) and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) on 30-day and 1-year all-cause mortality.
Methods: The study included consecutive patients with AMI complicated by CS included in the Polish Registry of Acute Coronary Syndromes (PL-ACS) and the Polish National Registry of Cardiac Surgical Procedures (KROK), treated with PCI and CABG, respectively.

Objectives: This study aimed to compare perioperative outcomes and long-term mortality between off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting and on-pump coronary artery bypass grafting in patients with ischaemic cardiomyopathy who had a left ventricle ejection fraction of ≤35%.
Methods: A retrospective cohort analysis was conducted using data from the Polish National Registry of Cardiac Surgery Procedures database, encompassing patients who underwent isolated coronary artery bypass grafting in Poland between 2012 and 2022. Patients were divided into two groups: on-pump and off-pump.
Introduction: Pericardial mesothelioma is an exceedingly rare pericardial neoplasm. It has atypical clinical symptoms and imaging characteristics that often lead to an inconclusive diagnosis. The diagnosis of a rare tumor such as pericardial mesothelioma, which can present with a variety of manifestations, requires a multidisciplinary approach.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of coronary bypass surgery (CABG) on long-term mortality, comparing survival rates to those of the general population in Poland. The study was based on the Polish National Register of Cardiothoracic Surgical Procedures (KROK). Between January 2009 and December 2019, 133,973 patients underwent CABG.

This corresponds to the relatively high frequency of infections where surgical incisions are performed. In the prevention of healing disorders, the medical staff intervention is important, as is the patient.

This study aimed to evaluate EuroSCORE II reliability in octogenarians undergoing isolated coronary surgery and to create an adjustment formula if necessary. All octogenarians who had isolated coronary surgery in Poland from January 2012 to December 2023, recorded in the Polish National Registry of Cardiac Surgical Procedures (KROK registry), were retrospectively assessed.

Damage to the platelets of mitochondria as a result of their interactions with reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) can lead to their numerous ischemic events associated with hypoxia or hyperoxia processes in the cell. Disturbances in redox reactions in the platelet mitochondrial membrane lead to the direct oxidation of cellular macromolecules, including nucleic acids (DNA base oxidation), membrane lipids (lipid peroxidation process) and cellular proteins (formation of reducing groups in repair proteins and amino acid peroxides).
