Pediatric high-grade gliomas (pHGG) are highly invasive with poor survival outcomes. Timing of Temozolomide administration has been shown to affect survival of adult patients with glioblastoma. We investigated whether pHGGs express circadian genes rhythmically and whether underlying rhythms affect Temozolomide sensitivity.

Dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) can present with a wide range of symptoms depending on its location and the degree of arteriovenous shunting. Rarely, they may manifest as cognitive impairment due to chronic venous dysfunction. This is the case of an elderly man evaluated for subacute onset of memory loss without dementia.

Alpha-Synuclein (α-Syn) is a presynaptic neuronal protein implicated in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD) and other synucleinopathies, primarily through its aggregation into insoluble fibrils. The extended α-Syn half-life necessitates treatment durations that are incompatible with efficient high-throughput drug screening, can risk compound stability or cause cellular toxicity. To address this, we inserted a PEST sequence, a motif known to promote rapid protein degradation, at the C-terminus of the gene using CRISPR/Cas9 to create a novel cell line with reduced α-Syn half-life.

Colonization of plant tissues by bacterial endophytes might lead to qualitative and quantitative changes in secondary metabolites (SMs). In this work, in vitro co-culture experiments were performed using cell suspensions of the medicinal plant and eight of its bacterial endophytes. An untargeted metabolomics approach using Ultra-High-Performance Liquid Chromatography High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS) was employed to investigate plant-microbe interactions.

With the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), smart sensors are increasingly being deployed as compact edge processing units, necessitating continuously writable memory with low power consumption and fast access times. Magnetic random-access memory (MRAM) has emerged as a promising non-volatile alternative to conventional DRAM and SDRAM, offering advantages such as faster access speeds, reduced power consumption, and enhanced endurance. However, MRAM is subject to challenges including process variations and thermal fluctuations, which can induce random bit errors and result in imbalanced probabilities of 0 and 1 bits.

Parenting is constituted of caregiving cognitions and practices, based in evolution and biology as well as culture and context, and lodged in nervous system structure and function. This narrative review first discusses parenting and an orientation toward caregiving in terms of its nature, constituents, and goals. Next, the review operationalizes parenting cognitions and practices that are expressed in response to facial and vocal cues of young offspring and revealed in naturalistic and experimental studies using behavioral preferences, attention tasks, and implicit association tests.

Histone deacetylases (HDACs) have emerged as compelling targets in developing anticancer therapeutics. This study outlines the development, synthesis, and biological evaluation of novel hydroxamic acid derivatives featuring a 2-oxoindoline scaffold, which exhibit high HDAC inhibitory activity and potential anticancer effects. Three series of N-hydroxycinnamamides, N-hydroxyheptanamides, and N-hydroxybenzamides were synthesized and assessed for their biological activity.

Neuroligins (NLGNs) are a family of postsynaptic adhesion molecules that bind to their presynaptic partners, neurexins, facilitating the formation and maintenance of synapses. In humans, there are five genes encoding NLGNs (, , and ), with having highly conserved counterparts in rodents, allowing these genes to be studied with high confidence of translational validity in mouse models. Human NLGN4X and 4Y were often assumed to serve similar functions because they share a 97% sequence homology, whereas mouse NLGN4-like is quite divergent.

Introduction: Guided surgery for immediate anterior implants aims to reduce the time required for aesthetic and functional immediate loading. However, the limited surface area of anterior teeth for guide stabilization may affect the accuracy of implant positioning. This in vitro study evaluated the effect of the number of supporting teeth on the accuracy of immediate implants in the maxillary central incisor region.

The comfort food (CF) concept emerged during the latter half of the twentieth century. Although not well defined, CF can be described as familiar foods that elicit feelings of well-being and play a role in social interactions and psychological health. These foods are often calorically dense and nutrient-poor, and overconsumption of some CF may contribute to negative metabolic health outcomes.

Height is an important health parameter employed across domains, including healthcare, aesthetics, and athletics. Numerous non-contact methods for height measurement exist; however, most are limited to assessing height in an upright posture. This study presents a non-contact approach for measuring human height in 2D space across different postures.

Background: The Food and Drug Administration mandates patient labeling materials like the Medication Guide (MG) and Instructions for Use (IFU) to support appropriate medication use. However, challenges such as low health literacy and difficulties navigating these materials may lead to incorrect medication usage, resulting in therapy failure or adverse outcomes. The rise of generative AI, presents an opportunity to provide scalable, personalized patient education through image recognition and text generation.

Article Synopsis
  • Lobster mushrooms, prized for their seafood-like aroma, are highly sought after by fine dining restaurants and food lovers but have a brief harvesting season, leading to their common drying for extended availability.
  • The study identified 35 different odorants in dried lobster mushrooms and measured the levels of 14 of them, revealing that 11 had significant aroma activity.
  • One key compound contributing to their seafood scent was identified as 2,6-dichlorophenol, and an aroma simulation model created from this research can help advance understanding of lobster mushroom aromas and their flavor production processes.

Poor placental development and placental defects can lead to adverse pregnancy outcomes such as pre-eclampsia, fetal growth restriction, and stillbirth. This study introduces two sensors, which use a near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) technique to measure placental oxygen saturation transabdominally. The first one, an NIRS sensor, is a wearable device consisting of multiple NIRS channels.

Cancers lacking standard screening (LSS) options account for approximately 70% of cancer-related deaths due to late-stage diagnosis. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is a promising biomarker for multi-cancer early detection. We previously developed SPOT-MAS, a multimodal ctDNA-based assay analyzing methylation and fragmentomic profiles, effective in detecting common cancers (breast, colorectal, liver, lung and gastric).

The clustered mountain mint, , is a pleasant-smelling, native North American plant. Despite its wide geographical presence across the United States and Canada, little is known about the specific odorants responsible for its pleasing aroma. Herein, 42 odorants were identified in the plant through solvent-assisted flavor evaporation (SAFE), gas chromatography-olfactometry (GC-O), and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

Rice serves as a crucial staple food crop for half of the world's population. In the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD), rice production plays a vital role in national food security. However, the majority of the existing intensified rice cultivation schemes in the VMD, which are typically traditional, have rendered many farmers' livelihoods unsustainable due to issues such as land degradation, water pollution, health risks, and low profitability.
