Prevalence and Determinants of Medication Adherence among Patients with HIV/AIDS in Southern Vietnam.

Unlabelled: This study was conducted to determine the prevalence and determinants of medication adherence among patients with HIV/AIDS in southern Vietnam.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a hospital in southern Vietnam from June to December 2019 on patients who began antiretroviral therapy (ART) for at least 6 months. Using a designed questionnaire, patients were considered adherent if they took correct medicines with right doses, on time and properly with food and beverage and had follow-up visits as scheduled.

Subarachnoid Hemorrhage due to Ruptured Spinal Artery Aneurysm: A Diagnostic Challenge.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) due to a solitary spinal aneurysm is extremely rare. Early diagnosis of spinal SAH is challenging, particularly when the spinal cord has not been compressed. We report a case of a 45-year-old male who presented with sudden onset of abdominal pain, followed by severe headache, vomiting, and generalized seizure.

A Challenging Case: Endovascular Treatment in a Patient with Large Ischemic Core and Dramatic Recovery.

Uncertainty exists over the efficacy and safety of endovascular treatment in patients with large ischemic cores in anterior circulation. Several trials have shown some potential benefits in selected patients despite their late presentation. In particular, perfusion imaging modalities equipped with automatic software has been proven useful in identifying patients with large ischemic cores that are at risk of infarct core expansion, meaning that this specific patient group could still benefit from reperfusion treatment.

Endovascular Recanalization in Early Recurrent Ischemic Stroke: A Treatment Challenge.

Reperfusion therapy is the most effective treatment for acute ischemic stroke. At present, many clinical studies have shown that mechanical thrombectomy is efficient and safe for acute ischemic stroke of large artery occlusion disease in the time window of 24 h. However, there is limited information on the safety and effectiveness of this technique in cases of recurrent ischemic stroke.

Perfusion-Based Decision-Making for Mechanical Thrombectomy in a Transient Ischemic Attack Patient with Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion.

A significant proportion of patients with large-vessel occlusion (LVO) initially present to the hospital with transient ischemic attack (TIA) and mild clinical manifestations such as low National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores (≤5). However, due to the natural course of the disease, the individuals may subsequently develop worsening symptoms. To date, there is lack of evidence-based guidelines on mechanical thrombectomy (MT) among those patients.

A Case of Successful Intravenous Thrombolysis Bridged with Repeated Endovascular Treatment in Acute Basilar Artery Occlusion.

Acute basilar artery occlusion (BAO) is a neurological emergency that has a high rate of mortality and poor functional outcome. Endovascular therapy (ET) is the gold standard therapy for large vessel occlusion stroke of the anterior circulation. Whether ET can also be effectively and safely performed in early recurrent large vessel occlusion, especially in BAO, is unclear.

Successful Bridging Therapy in a 103-Year-Old Woman with Acute Terminal Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion.

The efficacy of intravenous thrombolysis and endovascular therapy and their favorable treatment outcomes have been established in clinical trials irrespective of age. Current guidelines do not recommend an age limit in selecting eligible patients for reperfusion treatment as long as other criteria are satisfied. A 103-year-old woman was admitted at our hospital within 1 h of stroke onset secondary to a left internal carotid artery terminus occlusion.

Fabrication of -Type Co₃O₄ Nanofiber Sensors for Ultra-Low H₂S Gas Detection at Low Temperature.

In the current work, we report the on-chip fabrication of a low-temperature H₂S sensor based on -type Co₃O₄ nanofibers (NFs) using the electrospinning method. The FESEM images show the typical spider-net like morphologies of synthesized Co₃O₄ NFs with an average diameter of 90 nm formed on the comb-like electrodes. The EDX data indicate the presence of Co and O elements in the NFs.

Insights from the Applications of Single-Cell Transcriptomic Analysis in Germ Cell Development and Reproductive Medicine.

Mechanistic understanding of germ cell formation at a genome-scale level can aid in developing novel therapeutic strategies for infertility. Germ cell formation is a complex process that is regulated by various mechanisms, including epigenetic regulation, germ cell-specific gene transcription, and meiosis. Gonads contain a limited number of germ cells at various stages of differentiation.

Current situation and key challenges on the use of single-use plastic in Hanoi.

Marine plastic litter, mostly comprising single-use plastics, has been recognised as one of the world's most urgent environmental concerns, and Vietnam has been ranked as one of the top five countries polluting the ocean with plastic waste. This paper examines Hanoi as a case study on single-use plastic by households, investigating the daily generation of single-use plastic waste through a survey, assessing existing policy gaps through a policy review, and providing recommendations on improving management along the supply chain in Vietnam. At almost 27 times a week on average, plastic shopping bags were found to be the most prevalent single-use plastic used by households, followed by wrap/film, straws, coffee cups with plastic lids, cutlery, takeout containers, food packaging, party cups, bottles for water and beverages, and other items.

Self-Assembled Few-Layered MoS on SnO Anode for Enhancing Lithium-Ion Storage.

SnO nanoparticles (NPs) have been used as reversible high-capacity anode materials in lithium-ion batteries, with reversible capacities reaching 740 mAh·g. However, large SnO NPs do not perform well in charge-discharge cycling. In this work, we report the incorporation of MoS nanosheet (NS) layers with SnO NPs.

Development of skeletal systems for ICRP pediatric mesh-type reference computational phantoms.

In 2016, the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) launched Task Group 103 (TG 103) for the explicit purpose of developing a new generation of adult and pediatric reference computational phantoms, named 'mesh-type reference computational phantoms (MRCPs)', that can overcome the limitations of voxel-type reference computational phantoms (VRCPs) of ICRPanddue to their finite voxel resolutions and the nature of voxel geometry. After completing the development of the adult MRCPs, TG 103 has started the development of pediatric MRCPs comprising 10 phantoms (male and female versions of the reference newborn, 1-year-old, 5-year-old, 10-year-old, and 15-year-old). As part of the TG 103 project, within the present study, the skeletal systems, one of the most important and complex organ systems of the body, were developed for each phantom age and sex.

Titanium Nitride Nanodonuts Synthesized from Natural Ilmenite Ore as a Novel and Efficient Thermoplasmonic Material.

Nanostructures of titanium nitride (TiN) have recently been considered as a new class of plasmonic materials that have been utilized in many solar energy applications. This work presents the synthesis of a novel nanostructure of TiN that has a nanodonut shape from natural ilmenite ore using a low-cost and bulk method. The TiN nanodonuts exhibit strong and spectrally broad localized surface plasmon resonance absorption in the visible region centered at 560 nm, which is well suited for thermoplasmonic applications as a nanoscale heat source.

Pressure-Driven Mitochondrial Transfer Pipeline Generates Mammalian Cells of Desired Genetic Combinations and Fates.

Generating mammalian cells with desired mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequences is enabling for studies of mitochondria, disease modeling, and potential regenerative therapies. MitoPunch, a high-throughput mitochondrial transfer device, produces cells with specific mtDNA-nuclear DNA (nDNA) combinations by transferring isolated mitochondria from mouse or human cells into primary or immortal mtDNA-deficient (ρ0) cells. Stable isolated mitochondrial recipient (SIMR) cells isolated in restrictive media permanently retain donor mtDNA and reacquire respiration.

Synthesis, antitumor activity and structure-activity studies of novel pyridoxine-based bioisosteric analogs of estradiol.

A new efficient approach to the synthesis of 6-alkenyl substituted pyridoxine derivatives has been developed. A series of 31 novel alkenyl pyridoxine derivatives, stilbene-based bioisosteric analogs of estradiol, were synthesized. In vitro cytotoxicity of the obtained compounds against MCF-7 (ER+) breast cancer tumor cells was studied using the MTT assay.

Is colorectal cancer associated with altered bowel habits in young patients?

Background: There is a rising incidence in young-onset colorectal cancer, with these patients falling outside of routine screening programmes. The aim of the study is to characterize the nature of altered bowel habits in young patients who are diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

Methods: A retrospective audit was conducted of adult patients younger than 45 years admitted under a Colorectal Surgery unit (Dandenong Hospital, Victoria) from 2011 to 2019 for the resection of colorectal cancer.

Self-reported psychological distress among caregivers of patients with cancer: Findings from a health facility-based study in Vietnam 2019.

In Vietnam, little is elucidated in scientific literatures about the mental health of caregivers of people with cancer. We conducted a cross-sectional study to report the situation and correlates of self-reported psychological distress among caregivers of cancer patients in Vietnam in 2019. Multiple logistic and linear regression analyses were performed.

A 69-year-old man consulted for a 3-day history of fever, wet cough, and yellow-green phlegm. He denied having any dyspnea, chest pain, hemoptysis, swallowing disorders, choke, chills, asthenia, anorexia, or weight loss. He reported a continuous dry cough and three episodes of pneumonia in the past 4 years.

ATP-Dependent Chromatin Remodeler CHD9 Controls the Proliferation of Embryonic Stem Cells in a Cell Culture Condition-Dependent Manner.

Emerging evidence suggests that chromodomain-helicase-DNA-binding (CHD) proteins are involved in stem cell maintenance and differentiation via the coordination of chromatin structure and gene expression. However, the molecular function of some CHD proteins in stem cell regulation is still poorly understood. Herein, we show that knockdown (KD) in mouse embryonic stem cells (ESCs) cultured in normal serum media, not in 2i-leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) media, causes rapid cell proliferation.

Conquering hypertension in Vietnam-solutions at grassroots level: study protocol of a cluster randomized controlled trial.

Background: Vietnam has been experiencing an epidemiologic transition to that of a lower-middle income country with an increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases. The key risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) are either on the rise or at alarming levels in Vietnam, particularly hypertension (HTN). Inasmuch, the burden of CVD will continue to increase in the Vietnamese population unless effective prevention and control measures are put in place.

Objective: To evaluate e-cigarettes with individual counseling for smoking cessation.

Design, Setting, And Participants: A randomized clinical trial enrolled adults motivated to quit smoking from November 2016 to September 2019 at 17 Canadian sites (801 individuals screened; 274 ineligible and 151 declined).

Rural-urban differences in preferences for influenza vaccination among women of childbearing age: implications for local vaccination service implementation in Vietnam.

Objectives: Pregnant women and new mothers are among the most vulnerable to seasonal influenza; however, little is known about their preferences for flu vaccination. We examined the rural-urban differences in uptake, demand and willingness to pay (WTP) for influenza vaccination among women of childbearing age, to assess the feasibility of implementing locally produced vaccines in Vietnam.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed in both urban and rural areas of Hanoi in 2018.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has led to significant strain on front-line healthcare workers.

Aims: In this multicentre study, we compared the psychological outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic in various countries in the Asia-Pacific region and identified factors associated with adverse psychological outcomes.

Method: From 29 April to 4 June 2020, the study recruited healthcare workers from major healthcare institutions in five countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
