Cheilitis granulomatosa, a rare condition in children, is marked by painless, sudden lip swelling, which can last for an extended period. Since cheilitis granulomatosa can precede gastrointestinal symptoms in some cases of Crohn's disease, a comprehensive evaluation before administering systemic inflammatory modulatory treatments and long-term follow-up is necessary.

The diagnosis of KFD remains challenging and often requires an invasive biopsy. Low serum alkaline phosphatase levels have frequently been observed in patients with KFD; however, the clinical significance of low serum alkaline phosphatase levels remains unclear.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of persistent hypophosphatasemia in a large, urban, multi-specialty hospital population and characterize the clinical and laboratory findings in adult patients with this condition. In this retrospective observational study, the results of 424,434 alkaline phosphatase (ALP) tests in 50,136 patients aged ≥18 years that were performed at Okayama University Hospital between July 2020 and October 2023 were analyzed.

Background: Adverse effects of medical treatment (AEMT) pose significant risks to paediatric patients. However, the mortality trends associated with AEMT in this population have been unclear.
Objective: We aimed to clarify the trends in the incidence, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) and mortality rates of AEMT for children in the US from 2000 to 2019.

The persistent ascension of childhood obesity on a global scale constitutes a significant quandary. The prevalence of childhood obesity in Japan peaked in the early 2000s and has been reported to have declined since then, but recent data and its trend including the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic era are not available. Moreover, there is a dearth of studies examining the correlation between the trend in childhood obesity and exercise habits over the past decade.

We investigated the association between infant feeding practices and the timing of peak height velocity in boys and girls.
Methods: Data on infant feeding methods and anthropometric measurements were collected from a nationwide Japanese birth cohort study.
Background/aim: The ectopic pain associated with inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) injury has been reported to involve macrophage expression in the trigeminal ganglion (TG). However, the effect of age-related changes on this abnormal pain conditions are still unknown. This study sought to clarify the involvement of age-related changes in macrophage expression and phenotypic conversion in the TG and how these changes enhance ectopic mechanical allodynia after IAN transection (IANX).

We report a case of global testicular infarction associated with epididymitis. A 26-year-old man with a history of clean intermittent self-catheterization since he was 1 year old presented to our hospital with left scrotal pain and swelling. He was diagnosed with epididymitis and was prescribed levofloxacin.

The aim of this study was to assess the involvement of the aging-related phenotypic conversion of medullary microglia in the enhancement of intraoral pain sensitivity using senescence-accelerated mice (SAM)-prone/8 (SAMP8) and SAM-resistant/1 (SAMR1) mice. Mechanical head-withdrawal threshold (MHWT) was measured for 21 days post palatal mucosal incision.

Our aims were to uncover the mechanism underlying the antitumor effect of gemcitabine and to analyze the mechanism regulating in vitro CCC cell gemcitabine resistance. In addition, we sought to identify miRNAs associated with the antitumor effects of gemcitabine in CCCs.

Recently, it was demonstrated that the aberrant expression of certain miRNAs plays a pivotal role in liver disease.

Due to the nature of the straight approaching line of a PEIT or radiofrequency ablation needle, penetrating the vessels that are interposed between the dermal insertion point and the nodule is unavoidable. A device with an overcoat needle and coaxial curved PEIT needle was created that facilitated a detour around interposing large vessels in order to avoid unnecessary harmful effects that result from the PEIT procedure.
