Background Weather is recognized as an environmental risk factor for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). This study explores the meteorological factors linked to a higher incidence of AMI. Methods and results The study involved 403 patients from the Oita AMI Registry who were admitted to 20 medical facilities with an AMI diagnosis between April 2012 and September 2013.

Successful repair of flayed tissue in a degloving injury of the hand by arteriovenous anastomosis.

We report the case of a 43-year-old man who had a degloving injury of the left hand from a printer machine. There was no response to a pin prick test over the peripheral portion of the degloved skin, so a branch of a digital artery was selected for anastomosis to a subcutaneous vein, which resulted in survival of the degloved tissue with no signs of congestion. Postoperative care and rehabilitation were straightforward, and functional results.

Pancreatic arteriovenous malformation involving adjacent duodenum with gastrointestinal bleeding: report of a case.

A 54-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with the symptoms of palpitation, dyspnea, and tarry stool. Upper gastroduodenal endoscopy revealed submucosal lesions with vascular ectasia in the second part of the duodenum. Dynamic computed tomography (CT) detected a hypervascular lesion in the pancreatic head and the duodenum.

Stimulated Brillouin scattering in dispersion-decreasing fiber with ultrahigh-speed femtosecond soliton pulse compression.

We report that stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a dispersion-decreasing fiber (DDF) is particularly disadvantageous with ultrahigh-speed femtosecond soliton compression that exceeds 40 GHz. It is important to note that the increase in the longitudinal mode power of a soliton is proportional to the square of the repetition rate. The SBS threshold is determined by the dispersion-decreasing rate of the DDF, rather than its fiber loss.
