Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) with pleural involvement presents significant diagnostic challenges, particularly in terms of differentiating it from malignant pleural effusion caused by other types of cancer, such as lung carcinoma. While most cases of EHE follow an indolent course, some can deteriorate rapidly, particularly those with serosal involvement such as pleural metastasis. In this report, we describe a case in which semi-rigid thoracoscopic cryobiopsy under local anesthesia yielded adequate specimens safely for diagnosis of pleural dissemination of EHE.

Unlabelled: A 65-year-old male presented to the emergency room after experiencing syncope while driving, causing a self-inflicted accident. He had previously been diagnosed with stage IV A (cTXN2M1a) lung adenocarcinoma with C-ROS oncogene 1 (ROS1) fusion gene, wherein entrectinib (a multikinase inhibitor of ROS1, 600 mg orally once daily) was initiated as the first-line chemotherapy 12 days prior. Although the elevated ambient dose equivalent (ADE) rates in areas radiologically affected by the 2011 Fukushima nuclear plant accident decreased as time passed, the assessment of Fukushima residents' external dose is still important. A dose estimation system for external exposure assessment at the late phase for individuals living in Fukushima Prefecture was developed for this purpose. The developed system enables the estimations of external doses over the future based on an individual behavioral pattern and ADE-rate distributions from aerial monitoring data and its predicted ADE rate.

Introduction: Pulmonary vein (PV) isolation (PVI) including the left atrial posterior wall (LAPW) (Box-PVI) is proposed as an additional strategy for non-paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (NPAF), however, the efficacy remains controversial. Background: Public interest in radiation rose after the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station accident was caused by an earthquake off the Pacific coast of Tohoku on March 11, 2011. Various reports on the accident and radiation were spread by the mass media, and people displayed their emotional reactions, which were thought to be related to information about the Fukushima accident, on Twitter, Facebook, and other social networking sites. Fears about radiation were spread as well, leading to harmful rumors about Fukushima and the refusal to test children for radiation.

When the primary visual cortex (V1) is damaged, cortical blindness results. However, visual information obtained from the superior colliculus (SC) or direct thalamic afferents to higher visual cortices produces unconscious visual functions called blindsight. Alarming visual stimuli suggesting the approach of a predator are known to trigger escape behaviors via visual information mediated by the SC and amygdala in small animals, and salient and dynamic visual stimuli also produce some conscious visual experience even in patients with blindsight.

Kinesin superfamily protein UNC-104, a member of the kinesin-3 family, transports synaptic vesicle precursors (SVPs). In this study, the number of active UNC-104 molecules hauling a single SVP in axons in the worm Caenorhabditis elegans was counted by applying a newly developed non-invasive force measurement technique. The distribution of the force acting on a SVP transported by UNC-104 was spread out over several clusters, implying the presence of several force-producing units (FPUs).

In our previous study (Soft Matter, 2016, 12, 1567), the relationship between the morphology and properties of graft-type imidazolium-based anion exchange membranes (AEMs) was revealed, in that the semi-crystalline features of the polymer matrix maintain its mechanical properties and the formation of interconnected hydrophilic domains promotes the membrane conductivity. Dietary licorice fravonoid oil (LFO) significantly decreased hepatic cholesterol and plasma lipoprotein cholesterol levels in high-fat diet rats. It significantly suppressed hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA synthase activity and increased cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase activity.
