Alzheimers Dement (Amst)
August 2025
Background: Dementia, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), is a growing concern in Egypt, yet biomarker research in this population is scarce. Identifying serum biomarkers is essential for early diagnosis and understanding disease mechanisms in underrepresented groups.
Methods: We performed serum proteomic profiling on 20 Egyptian dementia patients and 10 cognitively unimpaired controls from the Egyptian Dementia Registry using mass spectrometry.

Introduction: The increased interest in evidence-based medicine has led to the emergence of disease registries worldwide to help tackle the impact of chronic diseases. A national dementia registry in Egypt would provide a valuable source of patient data that will significantly advance the disease management strategies, quality of patient care, and impact health policy- and decision making.
Methods: This study investigates the complexity of creating a disease registry for dementia in Egypt by interviewing 24 experts to provide recommendations for the most appropriate registry model to be developed.

Efforts to prevent dementia can benefit from precision interventions delivered to the right population at the right time; that is, when the potential to reduce risk is the highest. Young adults (aged 18-39 years) are a neglected population in dementia research and policy making despite being highly exposed to several known modifiable risk factors. The risk and protective factors that have the biggest effect on dementia outcomes in young adulthood, and how these associations differ across regions and groups, still remain unclear.

To help address the increasing challenges related to the provision of dementia care, dementia registries have emerged around the world as important tools to gain insights and a better understanding of the disease process. Dementia registries provide a valuable source of standardized data collected from a large number of patients. This review explores the published research relating to different dementia registries around the world and discusses how these registries have improved our knowledge and understanding of the incidence, prevalence, risk factors, mortality, diagnosis, and management of dementia.
