Synthetic opioids such as pethidine (PTD) have a high potential for addiction but are widely used in clinical settings to manage pain before and after surgical procedures. Combinations of pethidine (PTD) with paracetamol (PCM) are frequently prescribed for the treatment of severe and chronic pain. In this study, an eco-friendly voltammetric sensor based on a screen-printed electrode (SPE) modified with zinc oxide nanoparticles functionalized with carbon nanotubes (ZnO/CNTs) was developed and employed.

PCM is a commonly used analgesic and antipyretic medication that has recently been incorporated into COVID-19 supportive treatment. Pharmaceuticals containing PCM in combination with other analgesic-antipyretic drugs like ETO help to improve patient compliance.

The current work constructs a solid-state sensor for selective assay of Ondansetron (OND) in pharmaceutical dosage form and plasma samples. During optimization, the Design Expert statistical package constructed a custom design of 15 sensors with different recipes.

The first procedure is based on measurement of native fluorescence intensity of both drugs at λ 337 nm and 370 nm using λ 290 nm and 314 nm for DAP and AVA in methanol respectively. The second procedure describes a measurement of synchronous fluorescence intensity of these drugs at 232 nm for DAP, and 267 nm for AVA, using Δλ of 90nm.

The Cs-Au nanoparticles are electrically wired and supported upon mass producible, economical screen-printed electrochemical sensing platforms and are characterized electrochemically (cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) and physiochemically (field emission scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis). The face-centered design was applied to optimize the significant experimental factors by using square wave voltammetry.
