Dysregulated cell death leading to uncontrolled cell proliferation is a hallmark of cancer. Chemotherapy-induced cell death is critical for the success of cancer treatment but this process is impaired by metabolic byproducts. How these byproducts interfere with anti-cancer therapy is unclear.
