Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a common occurrence in the perioperative patient population but is often undiagnosed. Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) has emerged as a promising tool for perioperative assessment; however, its effectiveness in detecting the presence or severity of OSA needs to be evaluated. We assessed the ability of airway POCUS as a screening and severity evaluation tool for OSA by examining its correlation with STOP-BANG scores and the Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI).

Predicting Postcesarean Pain: A Prospective Cohort Study Using a 3-Question Questionnaire, Local Anesthesia Infiltration, and Observer Rating.

Acute postoperative pain is a typical complaint following cesarean delivery (CD). The current standard for postcesarean pain management is the use of a multimodal analgesia regimen which is beneficial for many but may be inadequate for some patients. This study aimed to determine if combining patients' response to a pain rating questionnaire, their pain score during local anesthetic infiltration (LAI) preceding spinal anesthesia for CD, and an anesthesiologist's prediction of postcesarean pain severity can predict the intensity of postcesarean pain.

Acute Pulmonary Embolism Caused by Abdominal Pannus Retraction in an Awake Patient in the Operating Room: A Case Report.

We present a 67-year-old woman who was hemodynamically stable with radiographic evidence of saddle pulmonary embolism (PE) in the main pulmonary artery and mobile thrombus in the right heart. Endovascular thrombectomy was scheduled under general anesthesia. Before anesthesia induction, femoral vessel access was planned under local anesthesia in case emergent cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) was needed.

The association of maternal obesity with fetal pH in parturients undergoing cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia.

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between maternal obesity and fetal umbilical arterial pH in a cohort of parturients that received a prophylactic phenylephrine infusion for management of spinal anesthesia induced hypotension during cesarean delivery.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of cesarean deliveries at a single academic tertiary care institution between January 2012 and March 2019. All scheduled nonlaboring cesarean deliveries of singleton live neonate performed under spinal anesthesia between 37 and 41 weeks gestational age were included.

von Hippel-Lindau disease (VHLD) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by central nervous system hemangioblastomas and renal tumors. Here, we report a case of thoracic epidural placement in a 35-year-old woman with VHLD presenting for left open heminephrectomy for renal masses. We also reviewed the literature on this topic.
