Genetic abnormalities in multiple myeloma (MM) influence treatment outcomes and may inform therapeutic decisions. The most common chromosomal translocation in MM is t(11;14); however, its role in disease progression is not well defined. We report results from MEDICI (NCT04721002), a global, minimally invasive, prospective study evaluating t(11;14) status in newly diagnosed MM (NDMM) and relapsed/refractory MM (RRMM).

In order to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of ibrutinib treatment, risk factors for adverse outcomes and the influence of pretreatment cardiologic evaluation, KroHem collected data on Croatian patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia treated with this drug. This is a retrospective survey performed in order to analyze the efficacy and toxicity of ibrutinib in a real-life setting.

Background: Carfilzomib-based regimens brought a significant improvement in the treatment of relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). Even though efficacy and safety profiles of carfilzomib are well-established in several clinical trials, there is limited real-world data with carfilzomib-based protocols. Here we present our real-world experience with carfilzomib-based regimens for treatment of patients with RRMM in Croatia.

Daratumumab was the first monoclonal anti-CD38 antibody approved for the treatment of MM, initially in relapse/refractory settings and, more recently, for newly diagnosed patients. Increased first-line usage of daratumumab will also substantially change treatment approaches for patients with relapsed/refractory disease.

Alternative schedules of chlorambucil enable the administration of higher total chlorambucil doses, and have better antileukemia activity. So far, evidence on the feasibility of combining obinutuzumab with alternative chlorambucil schedules is lacking.

A retrospective analysis was conducted on 164 RRMM patients treated with ixazomib at nine Croatian haematology centres from November 2016 to February 2023.

The 14-day/cycle prednisone course contributes to side effects, including osteoarticular events like avascular bone necrosis (AVN). Our center has been using eBEACOPP since 2009 for AS and 2014 for EU patients.

(2) Methods: In total, 140 patients with infradiaphragmal lymphoma treated between 2003 and 2020 were retrospectively evaluated. There were 69 patients (49%) treated with IFRT, and 71 (51%) patients treated with ISRT.

In our institution, a change of practice was implemented and the central venous catheter (CVC) placement for all autologous PBSC collections was abandoned in favor of a careful evaluation of peripheral venous access (PVA) for each individual patient. The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the rate of patients with adequate peripheral veins for autologous PBSC collection and compare patient characteristics, collection efficacy, and complication rate between patients with PVA and CVC.

Chronic kidney dysfunction is associated with increased mortality in multiple cancer types. Preliminary evidence suggests the same to be true for B-large cell lymphomas (B-LCL). To analyze the relationship of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and outcome of B-LCL in detail we collected data on outcomes of 285 consecutive patients with newly diagnosed B-LCL treated at our institution with standard rituximab-containing regimens who did not have preexisting kidney disease or urinary tract obstruction at presentation.

Data on outcomes of older patients are scarce.
Patients And Methods: We collected data on patients with newly diagnosed high-risk DLBCL older than 60 years treated with DA-EPOCH-R.
Purpose: Data on efficacy and toxicity of infradiaphragmal radiotherapy fields in lymphoma patients are scarce. We therefore performed this retrospective study to analyse our experience with radiotherapy exclusively to infradiaphragmal fields.
Materials And Methods: we retrospectively evaluated 101 patients treated between 2003 and 2014.
Background: Hematology patients are intensive platelet users. In clinical practice, a substantial proportion of platelet (PLT) transfusions are routinely administered outside the guidelines despite compelling evidence for recommendations. Those unnecessary PLT transfusions are an unjustified extra burden on a scarce healthcare resource and may also be detrimental to the patients.

Data on patients treated outside of clinical trials are lacking. We have retrospectively investigated efficacy and safety of G-based immunochemotherapy regimens in 114 patients treated in a real-life setting during a period of 2 years, largely coinciding with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: The historical cohort consisted of 40 patients who started treatment with rituximab in 2007 and 2008. Data on the recent cohort, consisting of 89 patients, were collected retrospectively from the electronic databases of Croatian hospitals with hematology units.
The course of multiple myeloma (MM) is influenced by a variety of factors, including the specificity of the tumour microenvironment (TME). The aim of this review is to provide insight into the interplay of treatment modalities used in the current clinical practice and TME. Bortezomib-based triplets are the standard for MM first-line treatment.

American recommendations list only R-CHOP as standard, while European also include R-ACVBP and R-CHOEP14. We have been routinely using the latter regimen at our institution since 2011 and performed this retrospective real-life single-center study to analyze outcomes.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAcquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (aTTP) is a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by auto-antibodies to Willebrand factor (vWF) cleaving enzyme (ADAMTS13), resulting in unusually large vWF multimers that lead to platelet aggregation, microthrombi formation and microangiopathic hemolytic anemia. Hemolysis in aTTP is mechanical; thus, direct antiglobulin test (Coombs test) is usually negative. Multiple autoimmune conditions and various auto-antibodies have been described in the context of chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML).
