- Pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) is a major abiotic stress affecting mungbean, leading to reduced yield and quality, prompting a study on genetic tolerance in various genotypes.
- A wide range of PHS tolerance was observed among 83 examined mungbean genotypes, with germplasm lines showing better resistance compared to high-yield varieties, and significant correlations were found between PHS and traits such as water imbibition capacity and germination rates.
- Notably, smaller-seeded genotypes exhibited greater PHS tolerance, and potential genetic donors for breeding programs were identified, including genotypes M 1255, M 145, M 422, and M 1421.
Unlabelled: Yellow mosaic disease, a most important destructive disease of mungbean production caused by Mungbean yellow mosaic India virus (MYMIV) under North Indian conditions. However management of this deadly disease is still becoming the biggest challenge due to breaking of resistance under changing climatic conditions. Hence, a field experiment was conducted at IARI, New Delhi, India during Kharif 2021 and Spring-Summer 2022 to understand the sowing date influence on incidence of MYMIV in mungbean resistant (Pusa 1371) and susceptible (Pusa 9531) cultivars.
