Purpose: The use of molecular radiotherapy (MRT) has been rapidly evolving over the last years. The aim of this study was to assess the current implementation of dosimetry for MRTs in Europe.
Methods: A web-based questionnaire was open for treating centres between April and June 2022, and focused on 2020-2022.
In 2006, the European Federation of Organisations for Medical Physics (EFOMP) adopted the "Malaga Declaration". The declaration asserted the fundamental role of Medical Physics professionals in the radiation protection of patients, workers, general public, carers and comforters and research participants in hospitals. However, since that time the Medical Physics profession has evolved in Europe and new regulations and documentation have been issued, such as directive 2013/59/Euratom and the "European Guidelines on Medical Physics Expert" (RP174).

- EFOMP has focused on enhancing and coordinating the education and training of medical physicists across Europe, conducting surveys to assess the current situation and gather feedback from National Member Organizations (NMOs).
- A 2020 survey revealed that 91% of NMOs responded, with 22 having a National Registration Scheme (NRS) for Medical Physics Experts (MPEs), while others are considering implementing one; notable differences exist in supervising committees and educational guidelines.
- Although progress has been made, the aim of a universally accepted and registered MPE in Europe is still not fully realized, with collaboration and knowledge exchange among countries deemed essential for achieving this goal.
