Survival rates with favorable neurological outcomes after in-hospital and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: A prospective cohort study.

Objectives: To evaluate the survival rates with favorable neurological outcomes among patients who experienced in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).

Design: This prospective cohort study assessed 554 adult patients with IHCA or OHCA referred to Hamad General Hospital, Qatar, between February 2015 and November 2021. Neurologic outcomes were measured using the Cerebral Performance Category (CPC) score.

A New Method to Optimize Stent Deployment by High-Definition Intravascular Ultrasound.

Objectives: Optimal stent deployment by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) improves outcome, but it can only be achieved in 50% of patients. We investigated the feasibility and effect of a new method of stent optimization on optimal stent deployment.

Methods: IVUS analyses of 168 coronary segments were performed after angiography-guided stenting (AGS) and stent optimization in 29 patients (30 lesions).

Achieving timely percutaneous reperfusion for rural ST-elevation myocardial infarction patients by direct transport to an urban PCI-hospital.

Backgrounds: ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) guidelines recommend reperfusion by primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) ≤ 90 min from time of first medical contact (FMC). This strategy is challenging in rural areas lacking a nearby PCI-capable hospital. Recommended reperfusion times can be achieved for STEMI patients presenting in rural areas without a nearby PCI-capable hospital by ground transportation to a central PCI-capable hospital by use of protocol-driven emergency medical service (EMS) STEMI field triage protocol.

Management of postpartum hemorrhage with intrauterine balloon tamponade using a condom catheter in an Egyptian setting.

Objective: To evaluate uterine balloon tamponade using a condom catheter for the management of early postpartum hemorrhage (PPH).

Methods: In a prospective observational study at Menoufia University Hospital, Shebin Elkom, Egypt, women with early PPH were enrolled between May 2011 and September 2012. Uterine balloon tamponade with a condom catheter was applied in women who were unresponsive to uterotonics and bimanual compression; patients with successful catheter placement were included in analyses.

Skin rash in the intensive care unit: Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, or a rare manifestation of a hidden cutaneous malignancy: A case report.

Skin rashes are infrequently encountered in the intensive care units, either as a result or as a cause of admission. The entities of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) form a spectrum of desquamating skin diseases that have multiple etiologies, the most common being drug-related reactions; very rarely, the cause may be cutaneous malignancies. We herein present a unique case of a 54-year-old male patient with psoriasis treated with methotrexate, who presented with a cellulitis-like clinical picture, then developed a severe progressive systemic inflammatory response syndrome, and progressed clinically to SJS, then TEN even after discontinuing the antibiotics and methotrexate.

Spine CT failed to demonstrate any infectious foci but showed partially visualized lung cavitary lesion and renal pole abnormalities. Blood cultures grew methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus Aureus (MSSA).
