Are trauma and orthopaedic consultant posts decreasing in frequency and increasing in subspecialisation?

Background: The needs of the population and changes to the configuration of the NHS affect the role of the Trauma & Orthopaedic (T&O) surgeon. This impacts training and the number of consultant posts available at Certificate of Completion of Training. Aim of this study was to review advertised T&O Consultant posts and determine the trends in frequency and sub-specialisation requirements between 2011 and 2020 to assess the perceived reduction in advertised posts and increasing subspecialisation, also looking at the impact to the NHS.

Hand conditions as sequelae of infection with COVID-19: a literature review.

Patients have attended our clinics with various hand pathologies after contracting COVID-19 or receiving vaccination. We postulate the virus stimulates a systemic inflammatory response that triggers these pathologies and conducted a search of the literature for associated conditions. Twenty publications were included for this review.

Skin Graft Review in Dermofasciectomy for Dupuytren's Contracture within 48 Hours: Challenging Historical Practice.

 Early review of skin graft following dermofasciectomy with skin grafting for Dupuytren's disease is not standard practice because of the potentially adverse effects on inosculation and neovascularization process of the skin grafting. The purpose of this retrospective case series was to observe whether early review of grafts postoperatively at 48 hours adversely affects graft survival and surgical outcomes.  Forty-nine primary and revision procedures were retrospectively analyzed for treatment outcomes, postoperative complications, functional hand scoring, and satisfaction rates postoperatively.

Real-world comparison of curative open, laparoscopic and robotic resections for sigmoid and rectal cancer-single center experience.

There has been an increase in the utilization of robotic surgery in addition to traditional open or laparoscopic approaches. Aim of this study is to compare the short-term outcomes for open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery for rectal and sigmoid cancer. One hundred and forty-seven patients (open n = 48, laparoscopic n = 49, robotic n = 50) undergoing curative resections by two surgeons between 2013 and 2020 were included.
