Article Synopsis
  • Iron toxicity is linked to ferroptosis, a unique cell death process driven by lipid peroxidation, and is a concern due to accidental ingestion leading to various health issues, including severe outcomes.
  • Tannic acid (TA), identified as a potent antiferroptotic agent, significantly reduces indicators of lipid peroxidation and iron accumulation in animal models, providing strong protection against liver and kidney damage.
  • TA's effectiveness surpasses that of traditional iron chelators, enhancing antioxidant gene expression and reducing ferroptosis markers, suggesting its potential therapeutic role in accidental iron poisoning and related conditions.
