Divalent metal content in diet affects severity of manganese toxicity in Drosophila.

Dysregulation of manganese (Mn) homeostasis is a contributing factor in many neuro-degenerative diseases. Adult Drosophila are sensitive to excessive levels of dietary Mn, dying relatively early, and exhibiting biochemical and mobility changes reminiscent of Parkinsonian conditions. To further study Mn homeostasis in Drosophila, we sought to test lower levels of dietary Mn (5 mM) and noted a striking difference in Canton-S adult survivorship on different food.

Spontaneous Oropharyngeal Hemorrhage Complicated by Cirrhosis, Resulting in Hemorrhagic Shock.

BACKGROUND Spontaneous oropharyngeal hemorrhage is rare and is often associated with other predisposing factors. This can result in hemodynamic instability in the presence of other bleeding sources. It is oftentimes difficult to diagnose due to its limitations to visual inspection of the oropharyngeal structures.

Tibialis anterior partial rupture mimicking muscle hernia: a rare case report.

Rupture of tibialis anterior tendons is infrequently described in literature, and those described were around the ankle, either at the origin or in the tendon substance. To our known knowledge only very few cases of rupture of the tibialis anterior at musculotendinous junction were reported. We highlight the occurrence of rupture at the musculotendinous junction in tibialis anterior muscle after trauma, presenting as a soft tissue mass, the need to differentiate it from traumatic muscle hernia, mechanism of injury and its ultrasound and MRI findings.
