Background: Underrepresentation of diverse populations in clinical trials poses challenges to equity and external validity in health care research. To successfully recruit underrepresented participants in pragmatic clinical trials, researchers must understand the perspectives and needs of individuals from diverse backgrounds who participate in research.

Objective: The purpose of this qualitative study was to gain an understanding of the needs and perspectives of participants of the OPTIMUM trial -- a pragmatic trial evaluating mindfulness-based stress reduction for chronic low back pain.

Background: Chronic low back pain is globally prevalent and associated with significant impairment in quality of life. Furthermore, people from historically marginalized communities are less likely to receive treatment, contributing to health inequities. Group mindfulness-based interventions improve pain and function, and virtual delivery has been demonstrated to be feasible.

A One Health approach for the genomic characterization of antibiotic-resistant isolates using Nanopore whole-genome sequencing.

In response to the growing threat posed by the spread of antimicrobial resistance in zoonotic , a One Health approach was used to examine the genomic diversity, phylogenomic relationships, and the distribution of genetic determinants of resistance (GDR) in and isolates from humans, animals (ruminants, swine, and chickens), and avian food products collected during a regionally (Basque Country, Spain) and temporally (mostly 2021-2022) restricted sampling. Eighty-three and seventy-one isolates, most exhibiting resistance to ciprofloxacin and/or erythromycin, were whole-genome sequenced using Oxford Nanopore Technologies long-fragment sequencing (ONT). Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) analysis identified a high genomic diversity among isolates.

Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) for pelvic nodal oligorecurrence in prostate cancer.

Background: This study evaluated the clinical outcomes of stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) in the treatment of oligometastatic pelvic node prostate cancer to delay androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).

Materials And Methods: Pelvic lymph node metastases were identified by C-choline positron emission tomography (PET)-computed tomography (CT), and patients were not receiving ADT. SABR was administered using linear accelerators with intensity-modulated and image-guided radiotherapy, at a prescribed dose of 35 Gy in 5 fractions over 2 weeks.

Introduction: The current study examined the relationships between neighborhood risk, perceived ethnic-racial discrimination, and depressive symptoms among rural Latinx adolescents. We also tested for potential moderation effects of ethnic-racial identity (ERI) and how these associations differ by gender.

Methods: Interviewer-administered surveys were used to collect quantitative data for this cross-sectional study in 2017.

Integrating a Community Advisory Board Into a Pragmatic Trial of Mindfulness for Chronic Low Back Pain.

Background: To improve the implementation of clinical trial interventions, there is a need to facilitate communication between key stakeholders and research teams. Community Advisory Boards (CAB) bring together a range of stakeholders not historically included in the research process to inform and work collaboratively with research teams.

Objective: To describe our procedures and processes for (1) integration of a CAB into a pragmatic clinical trial of a telehealth-delivered group mindfulness program for persons with chronic low back pain (cLBP) within primary care, and (2) for the rapid uptake and implementation of CAB recommendations.

The Rio Grande, which forms the United States-Mexico border for much of its course, receives diverse pollutants from both urban and agricultural areas, most notably in the sister cities of El Paso (TX, USA)-Ciudad Juárez (CHI, Mexico). This study aimed to describe regional trends in water quality in waters near the El Paso-Ciudad Juárez metroplex and to examine the potential for water quality improvement through the use of a created wetland. Very few differences in nutrient chemistry were found among drains, canals and the Rio Grande, with the exception of elevated chloride and lower phosphorus levels found in the drains.

Illicit drug use in seven Latin American countries: critical perspectives of families and familiars.

This cross-sectional multi-centre study explored how family members and friends of illicit drug users perceived protective and risk factors, treatment facilities and policies and laws regarding illicit drug use. Family members and friends of illicit drug users were recruited in 10 urban health care outpatient units in 7 Latin American countries (Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico) to complete a questionnaire. The majority of the respondents chose psycho-social factors over genetic or biological explanations as causes of drug problems.
