The Section for Skeletal Trauma and Sports Injuries of the European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES) has reached a consensus among European countries in the treatment of proximal humerus fractures in a working group. The Masquelet technique is used to treat large bone defects; it is a two-stage procedure based on an induced membrane. Falling down a staircase is a common mechanism of injury in patients with severe trauma, but the effect of varying fall height according to the number of steps on injury patterns in these patients has been little studied.
