Hypoparathyroidism, often resulting from surgical complications, severely disrupts calcium homeostasis, leading to disabling symptoms. Current treatments offer limited relief, highlighting the need for alternative therapies like parathyroid transplantation. This study introduces a simple method for living-donor parathyroid procurement from pigs, with potential applications in transplantation research, especially for the field of xenotransplantation.

Because of its similar overall anatomy and physiology, the pig has a very high translational value and is thus frequently used as the first choice in surgical research.
Summary: In cardiovascular treatments, it helped design stents, improve coronary bypass grafting, and perform heart valve xenotransplants.
The postprandial glucose response is an independent risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Observationally, early glucose response after an oral glucose challenge has been linked to intestinal glucose absorption, largely influenced by the expression of sodium-glucose cotransporter 1 (SGLT1). This study uses Mendelian randomization (MR) to estimate the causal effect of intestinal SGLT1 expression on early glucose response.

Using cutting-edge techniques, we attempted to develop a type 2 diabetic minipig model in this study by combining a partial pancreatectomy (Px) with an energetic overload administered either orally or parenterally.
Methods: Different groups of minipigs, including Göttingen-like (GL, n = 17) and Ossabaw (O, n = 4), were developed.
Introduction: In animal research, obtaining efficient and constant pain control is regulatory but challenging. The gold standard pain management consists of opioid analgesic administration, such as buprenorphine or fentanyl extended-release patches. However, as in all drugs with a short half-life time, repeated buprenorphine administrations are needed, leading to multiple injections that affect the research protocol.
