Chronic lymphocytic leukemia, characterized by an accumulation of monoclonal B lymphocytes, is the most common adult leukemia. The disease predominantly affects older adults, with a significant proportion being asymptomatic at diagnosis. This manuscript provides a comprehensive review of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, including its epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic criteria, and treatment strategies.

Methods: A decision tree followed by a Markov model with a lifetime horizon was developed. Patients entered the model with an acute iTTP event.
Introduction: Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable malignant neoplasm that accounts for approximately 1% of all cancers and 10% of haematological malignancies. Bortezomib is one of the most commonly used medications in first-line treatment and subsequent relapses, either as a single agent or in combination with other therapies. This study aims to assess the effects of bortezomib on the overall survival (OS), progression-free survival, overall response rate, time to next treatment, health-related quality of life, compliance, adverse events and treatment-related death in patients with MM.

Background: The use of anthracycline-based chemotherapy is associated with the development of heart failure, even years after the end of treatment. Early detection of cardiac dysfunction could identify a high-risk subset of survivors who would eventually benefit from early intervention. Cardiac magnetic resonance feature-tracking (CMR-FT) analysis offers a practical and rapid method to calculate systolic and diastolic strains from routinely acquired cine images.

The interactions between the malignant and inflammatory cells are mediated by aberrantly produced cytokines, which play an important role in tumor immunopathogenesis. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes encoding cytokines and their regulatory proteins may influence the peripheral levels of these molecules and affect disease's pathobiology.

Differently, bone marrow aspirate clot technique is rarely performed even though it has been described in literature. Here, we highlight the utility of the bone marrow aspirate clot, exemplifying through the discussion of three clinical cases in which this technique was used for diagnosis and follow-up purposes: megaloblastic hemopathy, multiple myeloma, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Background: Despite all the scientific progress that has been made on understanding the disease, prognosis for patients with relapsed and refractory Hodgkin's lymphoma remains poor and the treatment is palliative in the majority of the cases. Thus, the aim of this study was to present the results on the compassionate use of everolimus in a group of patients who were monitored at nine different centers in Brazil.
Methods: A 10-mg oral dose of everolimus was given to each patient daily.

Introduction: Selenoenzymes can modulate the extent of oxidative stress, which is recognized as a key feature of septic shock. The pathophysiologic role of erythrocyte selenium concentration in patients with septic shock remains unknown. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the association of erythrocyte selenium concentration with glutathione peroxidase (GPx1) activity, GPx1 polymorphisms and with ICU and hospital mortality in septic shock patients.

Involvement of the bone marrow by the angiosarcoma is exceedingly uncommon, and there have only been a few cases reported in the literature to date. Clinical manifestations and common laboratory findings of bone marrow involvement can mimic other more common bone marrow-replacing neoplasias such as lymphomas and acute leukemia.
