Background: American Indian Peoples have the highest prevalence of diabetes among all racial and ethnic groups. Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in people with type 2 diabetes. Lipid management, including statin medications, is recommended to reduce the risk of ASCVD for patients with type 2 diabetes.

Background And Objectives: American Indian and Alaska Native peoples have disproportionately low rates of advance care planning (ACP). To address this problem, we culturally tailored and evaluated an intervention for ACP to the needs of a specific American Indian Tribe. The goal of our study was to examine the culturally tailored (MY WAY) ACP intervention with respect to 5 ACP outcomes: barriers, facilitators, readiness, self-efficacy, and notarized advance care plan completion.

Background: Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) research worldwide indicate that it is more common in Indigenous than in non-Indigenous populations. We examined the relationship of depression and diabetes, alone and together, with incident ADRD in a large sample of American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) peoples.

Methods: We examined a sample of 65,801 AIAN peoples aged ≥ 45 years in fiscal year 2007 who were ADRD-free between FY2007-09.

American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) adults experience higher rates of chronic diseases and mortality than non-Hispanic White (NHW) adults. Hospice can improve quality of life and reduce hospitalizations for those with terminal illness(es). Translational research needs to show value through impact on measures that matter to the public, including health and societal benefits. To this end, the Translational Science Benefits Model (TSBM) identified four categories of impact: Clinical, Community, Economic, and Policy.
