A general and efficient approach for the short synthesis of functionalized diquinanes and angular quinanes is described. This strategy involves cyclopentannulation of 2-alkyl-substituted cyclic 1,3-pentanediones with a cyclopropyl phosphonium salt ([1-(ethoxycarbonyl)cyclopropyl]triphenylphosphonium tetrafluoroborate), enabling the incorporation of diverse substituents at the bridgehead position of diquinanes. The resulting cyclopentannulation products can be readily transformed into synthetically challenging diquinanes containing two vicinal quaternary carbon stereocenters and multiple stereocenters and linear triquinanes.

Benzimidazole compounds are known for their broad spectrum therapeutic potentials. A small library of benzimidazole derivatives were designed and synthesized via a one-pot telescopic grinding approach. The ability of these molecules as proposed anticancer agents were evaluated by their potential to bind to two important cancer pathway protein targets, human estrogen receptors and cyclin dependant kinases, 3ERT and 5FGK respectively.

Curcumin has anti-inflammatory properties but current evidence is limited to advocate its use in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We explored whether curcumin could maintain remission in patients with RA while tapering conventional synthetic Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs (csDMARD). In this patient-and investigator-blinded trial, adults with RA in sustained remission for more than six months were randomized to oral curcumin (1 g) with piperine (5 mg) twice daily or matching placebo.

Background: Data on the effectiveness of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines and the durability of protection against the prevalent Omicron variant are scarce, especially in patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRDs). Hence, we prospectively studied Omicron breakthrough infections in patients with AIRDs and attempted to isolate associated risk factors.

Methods: Patients with AIRDs who had completed primary vaccination with either AZD1222 or BBV152 vaccines were included and prospectively followed up from January 2022 onwards for the development of breakthrough Omicron infections.

Background: India's recent increase in urbanization alongside with feminization of rural agriculture could increase the existing gender disparities in dietary diversity. With many rural men migrating to urban areas, women have increased domestic burdens as well as productive burdens such as making informed crop production decisions so household members consume a diverse diet. Given the rapid and recent onset of this phenomenon, there is a need to explore gender differentials in diet diversity across urban and rural areas to assess if certain populations are being disproportionately impacted by this trend.
