Soy protein isolate can be used as packaging material for fruit preservation. However, its application is limited because of poor antibacterial properties and mechanical properties. To solve this problem, the composite particles with multifunctional properties were prepared with quaternary ammonium lignin and cinnamaldehyde, which were added to soy protein isolate films.

Post-harvest fruits are susceptible to microbial infections and spoilage, and the development of multifunctional green preservation films to extend the shelf-life of fruits is desirable. In this study, multifunctional antibacterial and antioxidant fruit preservation films were developed by incorporating natural plant actives of proanthocyanidins and carvacrol essential oils into chitosan-dialdehyde cellulose composite films. The composite film had good mechanical properties, with a tensile strength of 78.

The peracetic acid (PAA)-based water purification process is often controlled by the solution pH. Herein, we explored the usage of biochar (BC) supported zero-valent iron/cobalt nanoparticles (Fe/Co@BC) for triggering PAA oxidation of sulfamethazine (SMT), and discovered the PAA activation mechanisms at different pHs. Fe/Co@BC exhibited extraordinary PAA activation efficiency over the pH range of 3.
