Home Monitoring trends during COVID-19 infection.

Background: Cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) recipients could have an unfavorable prognosis if infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). We aimed to analyze the data daily transmitted by the Home Monitoring (HM) system (BIOTRONIK, Berlin, Germany) of CIEDs during the infection.

Methods: We identified CIED patients followed with the HM who experienced COVID-19 clinical manifestations.

Pulmonary hypertension due to left heart disease (PH-LHD) frequently complicates heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Specific therapies for PH have not offered an advantage in patients with PH-LHD. The combined angiotensin receptor blocker-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI), sacubitril/valsartan, is a novel therapy that can increase levels of natriuretic peptides (NPs).

Effects of remote monitoring of cardiac implantable electronic devices after stroke or transient ischemic attack.

Aims: Cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) recipients who experienced an ischemic cerebral event may particularly benefit from continuous remote monitoring. We aimed to assess the effect of remote monitoring on the occurrence of 1-year serious adverse events in CIED recipients after ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA).

Methods: Patients were eligible if they suffered a TIA/stroke.

Association between Beta1 -Adrenergic Receptor Polymorphism and Risk of ICD Shock in Heart Failure Patients.

Background: Sympathetic activation in heart failure patients favors the development of ventricular arrhythmias, thus leading to an increased risk of sudden cardiac death. β1 - and β2 -adrenergic receptor polymorphisms have been linked to the risk of sudden death. Implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD) are implanted in a large percentage of heart failure patients, and beyond preventing sudden cardiac death they provide a continuous monitoring of major ventricular arrhythmias and of their own interventions.

[Aortic intramural hematoma fissuration: atypical presentation in an aircraft pilot].

Aortic intramural hematoma is a life-threatening thoracic aortic pathology. In this report we describe a case of fissuration of an aortic intramural hematoma with atypical clinical presentation, which occurred in an aircraft pilot. The patient was admitted to our emergency room with transient chest pain developed during a flight landing, followed only by persistent abdominal pain.
