Background and objective Locomotive syndrome (LS), a condition characterized by diminished mobility due to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), is a growing concern among older adults. The 25-item Geriatric Locomotive Function Scale (GLFS-25) is a common tool for LS assessment. However, its reliance on classical test theory (CTT) and the inclusion of non-motor function items raise questions about its accuracy in reflecting the severity of motor dysfunction.

Article Synopsis
  • Malunion of thumb and finger fractures leads to issues with hand appearance and function, often resulting in rotational deformities in multiple planes.
  • Corrective osteotomy is necessary for addressing these deformities, but accurately measuring the extent of the malunion, especially in the transverse plane, is challenging.
  • A new technique called linkage simulation has been developed to quantify rotational deformities, allowing for better surgical planning and enabling simulations of finger movements and potential outcomes post-surgery.

Currently, there is no surgical assistance system that can perform a three-dimensional (3D) planned total hip arthroplasty (THA) by methods other than surgical assistance navigation or robots. However, they are expensive, cumbersome, and subject to additional invasiveness, so there is a need for a simpler and less expensive 3D surgical support system. In this study, THA was performed using the anterolateral approach (Watson-Jones) in the supine position in 23 subjects to examine the efficacy and safety of a patient-specific femoral guide linked to 3D surgery support software.
