Background: Cholangiocarcinomas have a poor prognosis, and resection is the only curative-intent treatment. We examined time-trends in mortality risk after resection in a nationwide Danish cohort.
Methods: We identified all Danish citizens diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in 2004-2022 who subsequently underwent liver resection, biliary tract resection, or a combination of the two.
Background & Aims: Cholangiocarcinomas have a poor prognosis, and the incidence is rising in most countries. We examined time-trends in incidence and mortality in a nationwide Danish cohort.
Methods: We used nationwide health databases to identify all Danish citizens diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma from 1995 to 2022.
Background: Use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) may have adverse effects in patients with alcohol-related cirrhosis (ALD cirrhosis), but PPIs continue to be used by many patients.
Aims: We aimed to describe the prevalence and incidence of PPI use from filled prescriptions among patients with ALD cirrhosis and to identify predictors of PPI initiation after ALD cirrhosis diagnosis.
Methods: We used Danish nationwide healthcare registries to investigate PPI use among patients diagnosed with ALD cirrhosis from 1997 to 2022.
Background & Aims: Hepatic encephalopathy (HE), one of the most serious prognostic factors for mortality in alcohol-related cirrhosis (ALD cirrhosis), is not recorded in Danish healthcare registries. However, treatment of HE with lactulose, the universal first-line treatment, can be identified through data on filled prescriptions. This study aimed to investigate if lactulose can be used as a surrogate marker of HE.

England recommends surveillance for HCC in these patients, while Denmark does not.
Methods: We performed an observational cohort study using the English Clinical Practice Research Datalink and the nationwide Danish healthcare registries to identify 17,110 English (2000-2016) and 22,122 Danish (1994-2022) patients with diagnosis codes of ALD cirrhosis.
Introduction: England has seen an increase in deaths due to alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) since 2001. We studied the influence of socioeconomic position on the incidence of ALD and the mortality after ALD diagnosis in England in 2001-2018.
Methods: This was an observational cohort study based on health records contained within the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink covering primary care, secondary care, cause of death registration, and deprivation of neighborhood areas in 18.
Background And Aims: Previous studies have not been able to determine whether non-selective beta-blockers (NSBB) reduce the risk of sepsis in cirrhosis. We aimed to examine this question with data from 1198 patients with cirrhosis and ascites included in clinical studies of satavaptan, a vasopressin receptor antagonist with no effect on infection risk.
Methods: Risk of sepsis was estimated for NSBB users vs nonusers.
Background And Aims: Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a chronic inflammatory liver disease associated with an increased prevalence of extrahepatic autoimmune diseases and an increased mortality compared with the general population. The contribution of extrahepatic autoimmune diseases to the increased mortality has not been clarified. Our aim was to determine the effect of extrahepatic autoimmune diseases on mortality in AIH patients.

Introduction: Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a chronic inflammatory liver disease and as such may increase the risk of cancer. We examined cancer risks in a nationwide cohort of patients with AIH.
Methods: This study was based on nationwide Danish healthcare registries.
Purpose: Alanine aminotransferase is the most frequently used marker of liver cell injury. We examined the association between alanine aminotransferase levels and long-term absolute risks of morbidity and mortality in healthy Danish people aged 30-49 years.
Patients And Methods: We divided 671 healthy participants from the Ebeltoft Health Promotion Project into four categories based on their baseline alanine aminotransferase values: low (≤10U/l), medium-low (men: 11-34U/l, women: 11-22U/l), medium-high (men: 35-69U/l, women: 23-44U/l) and high (men: ≥70U/l, women: ≥45U/l), and followed them through Danish healthcare registries for up to 20 years.
Objective: To study musculoskeletal workload in experienced surgeons during laparoscopic surgery (LS) compared with robotic assisted laparoscopy (RALS).
Background: 70-90% of surgeons who regularly perform LS report musculoskeletal symptoms, mainly in neck and shoulders. Data regarding the potential ergonomic benefits of RALS in a clinical setting is very limited.
