International, Multi-Institutional Evaluation of Practice Patterns and Outcomes for Recurrent and Metastatic Sinonasal Undifferentiated Carcinoma.

Objectives: The aims of this study were to analyze the clinical characteristics of patients with recurrent and metastatic sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC) and evaluate the current treatment strategies to help guide future management.

Design: This is a retrospective cohort study.

Setting: The study was conducted at six international tertiary treatment centers.

Neuroimmune interactions in the olfactory epithelium: maintaining a sensory organ at an immune barrier interface.

While primarily a sensory organ, the mammalian olfactory epithelium (OE) also plays a critical role as an immune barrier. Mechanisms governing interactions between the immune system and this specialized chemosensory tissue are gaining interest, in part sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic. Regulated inflammation is intrinsic to normal mucosal healing and homeostasis, but prolonged OE inflammation is associated with persistent loss of smell, belying the intertwining of local mucosal immunology and olfactory function.

Preemptive airway management planning: A retrospective evaluation of the pediatric difficult airway consultation service.

Background/aims: The pediatric Difficult Airway Consultation Service (pDACS) was created in 2017 to identify patients with potentially difficult airways and create airway management plans prior to airway management.

Methods: Consults were either nurse-initiated, physician-initiated, or both nurse-and-physician-initiated and were examined for demographic and clinical factors. If a child had difficult airway risk factors, a consult note with airway management recommendations was completed.

Cochlear implantation in unilateral hearing loss: impact of short- to medium-term auditory deprivation.

Introduction: Single sided deafness (SSD) results in profound cortical reorganization that presents clinically with a significant impact on sound localization and speech comprehension. Cochlear implantation (CI) has been approved for two manufacturers' devices in the United States to restore bilateral function in SSD patients with up to 10 years of auditory deprivation. However, there is great variability in auditory performance and it remains unclear how auditory deprivation affects CI benefits within this 10-year window.
