Pseudoprogression is an atypical response pattern to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), characterized by initial tumor enlargement or the appearance of new lesions, followed by subsequent tumor regression. While this phenomenon has been observed in several solid tumors, its occurrence in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is rare and not well understood, presenting diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. We report the first female case of HCC pseudoprogression during atezolizumab and bevacizumab therapy.

However, dynamic muscle atrophy during HCC treatment is also a critical concern. This study aimed to determine the clinical significance of MVL and severe muscle atrophy following lenvatinib treatment among patients with unresectable HCC.

However, Ate/Bev's high cost limits its common use in real-life practice, while Len is usually covered by national health insurance (NHI). We conducted this study to compare their effectiveness and safety in real-world settings.

We aimed to build and validate a novel model to predict MVI in the preoperative setting. We retrospectively collected 857 patients with Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage 0 or A HCC who underwent primary resection at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Hospital between January 2001 and June 2016.

In 2023, a new nomenclature, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), replaced the term non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). With the global rise in MASLD prevalence, concurrent MASLD and chronic hepatitis B (CHB)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are becoming increasingly common. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical impact of concurrent MASLD on long-term survival outcomes in patients with CHB-related early-stage HCC following curative resection.

Background: The inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), comprising Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) is a complex disease with multifactorial etiology. The intestinal dysbiosis have been investigated to play an important role in IBD pathogenesis and disease activity. The aim of our study was to analyze the intestinal microbiota composition in IBD across different severity levels and the impact of biologic therapy on microbiota modulation.

Materials And Methods: Between 2011 and 2020, 3941 patients who were newly diagnosed with HCC at our institution were enrolled in this study.

Background: The risk of first recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) within years 5 to 10 after curative hepatectomy remains unknown. We aimed to assess the incidence and prognostic factors for very late recurrence among patients who achieved 5 years' recurrence-free survival (RFS) after primary resection.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 337 patients with early-stage HCC underwent primary tumor resection and achieved more than 5 years' RFS.
Background And Aims: Sustained inflammation and hepatocyte injury in chronic liver disease activate HSCs to transdifferentiate into fibrogenic, contractile myofibroblasts. We investigated the role of protocadherin 7 (PCDH7), a cadherin family member not previously characterized in the liver, whose expression is restricted to HSCs.
Approach And Results: We created a PCDH7 fl/fl mouse line, which was crossed to lecithin retinol acyltransferase-Cre mice to generate HSC-specific PCDH7 knockout animals.
Lenvatinib has been approved as one of the first-line treatments for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) due to its high treatment efficacy being non-inferior to sorafenib. Previous studies have shown well-controlled viremia contributes to the prognosis of HCC patients receiving first-line sorafenib; hence, we postulated this association might also exist in HCC patients with lenvatinib treatment. From April 2018 to December 2021, 201 unresectable HCC patients with first-line lenvatinib treatment in our institute were assessed.

Background: Prophylaxis antiviral therapy is recommended for patients with hepatitis B receiving chemotherapy but the ideal treatment duration after chemotherapy cessation needs more evidence for clarification.
Aims: This study aimed to compare the relapse rate of short finite intervals of 6 months and 12 months of -nucleos(t)ide analogue (NA) therapy in patients stratified by low hepatitis B virus (HBV)-DNA of < 2000 IU/ml or high HBV DNA of ≥ 2000 IU/ml.
Methods: Patients started tenofovir or entecavir treatment 1 week before chemotherapy and were assigned to different treatment duration groups randomly after stratified by HBV DNA pretreatment: (1) HBV DNA of < 2000 IU/ml at 6-month or 12-month duration; (2)HBV DNA of ≥ 2000 IU/ml at 6-month or 12-month duration.
Our objective was to develop a predictive nomogram that could estimate the long-term survival of patients with very early/early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) undergoing radiofrequency ablation (RFA). For this retrospective study, we enrolled 950 patients who initially received curative RFA for HCC at Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stages 0 and A between 2002 and 2016. Factors predicting poor survival after RFA were investigated through a Cox proportional hazard model.

Background: Barcelona clinic liver cancer (BCLC) stage B (intermediate stage) hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is highly heterogeneous; thus, identifying the most effective treatment for individual patients represents a significant clinical challenge. However, transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the only recommended treatment option. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the patient characteristics and outcomes of living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) for BCLC stage B HCC.

Of note, upregulation of miR-29a ameliorates high-fat diet (HFD)-induced liver dysfunctions in mice. However, the miR-29a effect on gut microbiome composition and HFD-induced gut microbiota changes during metabolic disturbances remains unclear.

However, the role of TNNT1 in the disease prognosis and biological functions of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still unclear. Background/purpose: Gut microbiology is associated with liver disease due to gut-liver circulation via the gut microbial-liver axis. There is a paucity of data regarding the effects of treatment to cure hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection on the gut microbiota. The aim of this study was to evaluate the fecal microbiota before and after treatment with direct antiviral agents (DAA) in patients with HCV infection.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This retrospective cohort study enrolled patients with cirrhosis with heavy alcoholism or/and HBV infection from January 2005 to December 2020.
Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common RCC subtype with a high mortality. It has been reported that delta-like 1 homologue (DLK1) participates in the tumor microenvironmental remodeling of ccRCC, but the relationship between delta-like 2 homologue (DLK2, a DLK1 homologue) and ccRCC is still unclear. Thus, this study aims to investigate the role of DLK2 in the biological function and disease prognosis of ccRCC using bioinformatics analysis.
