Purpose: High-pressure-processed (HPP) rice is white rice that maintains some key functional food ingredients of brown rice, such as polyphenols. We examined whether HPP rice intake during interval walking training (IWT) improved glycemic control with enhanced methylation of the NFKB2 gene in hyperglycemic older subjects.
Methods: We recruited 51 people aged ~ 70 yr who had already performed IWT for ≥ 6 months, but had hyperglycemia (blood glucose concentration ([Glc]) > 110 mg/dl or HbA1c > 6.
Purpose: To examine the hypothesis that an increase in response of postmenopausal bone to interval walking training (IWT) depends on baseline bone mineral densities (BMDs).
Methods: Two hundred and thirty-four postmenopausal women (64±5 (SD) yr) with no medication for osteoporosis performed 5-month IWT, repeating fast and slow walking at ≥70% and ~40% peak aerobic capacity, respectively, for 3 minutes each per set, ≥5 sets/day, ≥4 days/week. They were recruited from those who had performed IWT ≥6 months before participating in the study so that their physical fitness and lifestyle-related disease symptoms had almost reached a steady state at the time of their participation.

To examine this, we randomly divided 21 older men (∼69 yr) with ∼160 mmHg for systolic and ∼90 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure at rest into two groups: Glc (n = 11) consuming glucose alone (25 g) and Pro-Glc (n = 10) consuming whey protein (10 g) + glucose (15 g), immediately after cycling exercise at 60-75% of peak aerobic capacity (V̇o) for 60 min/day, 3 days/wk, for 8 wk.
