How a Gauze Sponge Roll Enhances Surgical Exposure in Thumb Carpometacarpal Arthroplasty: A Technical Note.

Thumb carpometacarpal arthroplasty has become a widely used standard technique in the surgical treatment of thumb carpometacarpal osteoarthritis. One of the most critical steps during this procedure is proper surgical exposure of the trapezium and the base of the first metacarpal to allow for prosthesis implantation. This article introduces a surgical technique in which a roll constructed from gauze sponges tightly wrapped with medical tape facilitates several steps in thumb carpometacarpal arthroplasty.

Learning curve comparison between switching approach and switching implant in cementless short stem total hip arthroplasty.

Introduction: Implementing new approaches or new implants is always related with a certain learning curve in total hip arthroplasty (THA). Currently, many surgeons are switching to minimally invasive approaches combined with short stems for performing THA. Therefore, we aimed to asses and compare the learning curve of switching from an anterolateral Watson Jones approach (ALA) to a direct anterior approach (DAA) with the learning curve of switching from a neck-resecting to a partially neck-sparing short stem in cementless THA.

Studies investigating intra-articularly applied FDO with a minimum number of 10 knee osteoarthritis patients, a follow-up period of at least 2 years, and at least 1 reported functional parameter (pain level or Patient-Reported Outcome Measures) were included.

Periprosthetic radiolucency in total wrist arthroplasty: a radiographic study.

This retrospective study investigates the incidences of periprosthetic radiolucency and the position of the prosthesis in patients who underwent total wrist arthroplasty. A total of 50 patients with a mean age of 58 years (SD 11) were included. The available dorsopalmar and lateral radiographs were categorized into the following groups: immediately postoperative and 1, 2, 3, 5 and beyond 6 years postoperatively.

The morphological relation of bPNST and healthy nerve fascicles are of utmost importance for achieving both removal of the entire tumor and preservation of functional integrity of the peripheral nerve. Thus, we intraoperatively assessed the morphological patterns between bPNST and nerve fascicles using photo documentation obtained between January 2009 and September 2021.

Seasonal impact on surgical site infections and wound healing disturbance in carpal tunnel surgery: A retrospective cohort study.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common entrapment syndrome of a peripheral nerve. Congenital Unilateral Hypertrophy of the Plantar Musculature with Multiple Toe Deformities: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Congenital unilateral hypertrophy of the plantar musculature is a rare condition, and to our knowledge, reports of only 14 cases have been previously published. As only one describes a concomitant orthopedic toe deformity, we report our case of abductor hallucis, flexor digitorum brevis, and abductor digiti minimi muscle hypertrophy in combination with hallux valgus and claw toe deformity as well as a laterally abducted fifth toe. Thus, this report presents the rare case of congenital hypertrophy of the plantar musculature associated with complex toe deformities.

Autologous Fat Transplantation for Thumb Carpometacarpal Joint Osteoarthritis (Liparthroplasty): A Case Series with Two Years of Follow-UP.

Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell (ASC) therapy is currently a focus of regenerative medicine. The present study aimed to examine the effect of 1 mL intraarticular lipoaspirate injection (liparthroplasty) in 31 thumb carpometacarpal osteoarthritis patients (27 woman and four men) with a median age of 58 (interquartile range (IQR) of 10) years and Eaton-Littler Stage 2 or 3.

Radial and palmar active range of motion measurement: reliability of six methods in healthy adults.

The current study aims to assess the reliability of 6 range-of-motion measurement methods for the thumb carpometacarpal joint: Pollexograph-thumb, Pollexograph-metacarpal, radius-metacarpal goniometry, intermetacarpal goniometry, intermetacarpal distance, and thumb-distal-interphalangeal distance. A senior hand surgeon, an experienced resident, and a less experienced research fellow evaluated the dominant hands of 29 healthy subjects. All 6 methods were performed for radial adduction, radial abduction, and palmar abduction, but only distance methods were measured for palmar adduction.
