Background: The burden of invasive fungal diseases (IFDs) in patients with complicated alcoholic hepatitis (CAH)-defined by ≥ 2 hepatic (ascites, jaundice, liver failure, encephalopathy) or extrahepatic (coagulopathy, shock, kidney or respiratory failure) dysfunctions within 30 days-remains poorly characterised.

Aims: To assess the burden of IFDs in CAH and compare it with bacterial pneumonia (BP).

Methods: We conducted a retrospective nationwide cohort study of adult CAH patients in France (2012-2021).

Objective: To evaluate obstetric and perinatal outcomes of pregnancies among patients with osteogenesis imperfecta using the French National Health Insurance Database.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study. Pregnancies were identified with an algorithm specifically developed for the French National Health Insurance Database to identify delivery stays using a combination of International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) discharge codes and medical procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the rates of multiple gestation births and perinatal complications between pregnancies treated with clomiphene citrate (CC) and those that were not.
  • The research included data from over 3 million pregnancies in France between 2013 and 2019, focusing on women aged 18-43, and used a control group matched by various health and socio-economic factors.
  • The findings revealed that pregnancies exposed to CC had a significantly higher rate of multiple births and faced a greater risk of several adverse outcomes, highlighting potential complications associated with CC treatment.

Objectives: Recent therapeutic advances, mainly with the advent of CFTR modulators, have been associated with an increasing number of pregnancies in females with cystic fibrosis (fwCF). This study aimed to evaluate the safety of the use of CFTR modulators, specifically elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ELX/TEZ/IVA) during pregnancy.

Methods: A nationwide cohort study was conducted using the French health insurance data warehouse (SNDS), covering nearly all singleton pregnancies ending between January 2018 and December 2023.

This nationwide cohort study provides a comprehensive overview of maternal and perinatal outcomes associated with sickle cell disease (SCD) during pregnancy. Using the French national health database, all singleton pregnancy-related hospital discharges from 2013 to 2020 in women aged 15-55 (n = 5 752 080) were selected. Of these, 1022 births were to women with SCD, 308 of whom were on long-term treatment, that is, hydroxyurea (HU) and/or transfusion programme.

Background: The health of children exposed but uninfected by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) requires long-term assessment, in particular in terms of neurological and cognitive development. Numerous confounding factors have hampered such assessment, and published data are contradictory.

Methods: Using data from the French National Health Data System from 2012 to 2022, we conducted a population-based matched cohort study on all live-born single children, including those born to mothers with HIV, all prenatally exposed to antiretrovirals (ARVs).

Introduction And Objective: Proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use in children increases the risk of infections, prompting inquiry into the impact of prenatal PPIs exposure on serious infections in offspring. As a research gap in this area exists, this study aimed to address it by assessing the association between prenatal PPIs exposure and serious infections in infants during their first year of life.

Methods: Using the French health insurance data warehouse (SNDS) (2013-2018), we conducted a retrospective cohort study on singleton, full-term liveborn non-immunocompromised infants, stratified by PPI use during the first three months of life (early-life use).

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers excluded pregnancies that ended in termination or miscarriage and those with prior blood cancer histories, focusing on the survival rates and maternal health during these malignancies compared to healthy pregnancies.
  • * The study found that of nearly 10 million pregnancies analyzed, 1,366 were associated with haematological cancers, providing new insights into their incidence and effects on maternal morbidity and mortality.

Background & Aims: There is limited understanding of the benefits of alcohol rehabilitation after alcohol hepatitis (AH).

Methods: We conducted a 2012 to 2021 national longitudinal study involving adult inpatients diagnosed with AH in France. We assessed the primary outcome of liver transplantation or death within 1 year after AH, including in its complicated form (CAH) defined as ≥2 hepatic or extrahepatic complications within 4 weeks after AH.

Introduction: The prevalence of Barrett's esophagus (BE) in France is unknown. However, the management of dysplastic BE in expert centers is recommended and reduces the risk of developing invasive adenocarcinoma. Our aim was to determine the burden of BE patients in the Paris Region.

Introduction And Objective: Given the high prevalence of antibiotic prescription during pregnancy in France and previous studies suggesting an increased risk of infection in offspring with such exposures, our study aimed to investigate the association between prenatal exposure to systemic antibiotics and serious infections in full-term infants during their first year of life.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective population-based cohort study on singleton, full-term liveborn non-immunocompromised infants, using the French National Health Data System (SNDS) between 2012 and 2021. Systemic antibiotic dispensing in ambulatory care settings during pregnancy defined the exposure.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate trends in exposure to harmful drugs among pregnant women in France from 2013 to 2019.
  • It involved analyzing data from over 5 million pregnancies to determine the prevalence of exposure to teratogenic and fetotoxic drugs during critical pregnancy periods.
  • Results indicated that while there was a notable decrease in overall harmful drug exposure during this time, specific drugs such as retinoids and NSAIDs were the most commonly used.

Objective: Even though systemic vasculitides (SVs) affect primarily patients over 50 years of age, they can occur among women of childbearing age. Preterm birth (PTB) and hypertensive disorders are frequent complications of pregnancy in SVs. This study aims to evaluate the risk of hypertensive disorders and PTB among pregnant women with SVs, and to identify associated risk factors.

Immunotherapy (IT) is a major therapeutic strategy for lymphoma, significantly improving patient prognosis. IT remains ineffective for a significant number of patients, however, and exposes them to specific toxicities. The identification predictive factors around efficacy and toxicity would allow better targeting of patients with a higher ratio of benefit to risk.

Objective: Systemic vasculitis (SV) rarely affects women of childbearing age and only small series have been reported to date in pregnant patients. The discovery of an unplanned pregnancy can be an urgent cause for modifying treatments. This study aimed to describe immunosuppressive drugs use before, during and after pregnancy in women with SV.
