Background: Long-term treatment of obesity with lifestyle changes alone is unsustainable for most individuals. Antiobesity medications are recommended for individuals with a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30 kg/m² or ≥ 27 kg/m² with one or more comorbidities. In Brazil, the prescription of combined sibutramine plus topiramate for obesity management is common in daily clinical practice.

Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH) is a hypothalamic hormone that stimulates GH secretion by the anterior pituitary gland. Ectopic production of GHRH by neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) is a rare cause of acromegaly, with some clinical and biochemical features indistinguishable from pituitary adenoma origin. Some clues for this diagnosis include pituitary MRI harboring hyperplasia, increased serum GHRH and extra-pituitary tumor detected in whole body scans.

Context: The role of hormone parameters at adrenal venous sampling (AVS) in predicting clinical and biochemical outcomes remains controversial.

Objective: To investigate the impact of hormone parameters at AVS under cosyntropin stimulation on lateralization and on complete biochemical and clinical outcomes.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 150 sequential AVS under cosyntropin infusion.

Article Synopsis
  • Obesity is associated with negative impacts on COVID-19 outcomes, but this study found it was not an independent risk factor for severe patient-centered outcomes among hospitalized individuals.
  • The retrospective cohort study analyzed 2547 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, revealing demographics and health factors that influence mortality and treatment needs.
  • Instead of obesity, the severity of a patient's clinical condition (measured by the SAPS-3 score), male sex, and being underweight were significant predictors of adverse outcomes such as mortality and the need for mechanical ventilation.

Few studies demonstrated a percentage decrease in the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) at a single time and the rate of hypoaldosteronism after adrenalectomy for primary aldosteronism (PA). Our aim was to investigate the evolution of renal function and the hypoaldosteronism risk after adrenalectomy for PA. Aldosterone, renin, eGFR, and electrolyte levels were determined before and at 1 week, 1, 3 and 6 months after unilateral adrenalectomy in 94 PA patients (40 men and 54 women).

Purpose: Dopamine agonists (DA) are the gold-standard for prolactinoma and hyperprolactinemia treatment. Intolerance to DA leading to drug drop out occurs in 3 to 12% of cases. We provide here a review of published data about DA intolerance and present a case report concerning the use of intravaginal cabergoline.
