Various construction materials are used in contemporary building structures. Modern buildings face impacts like dead, live, snow, and wind load. They may also face extreme conditions, such as seismic activity, which can threaten their safety and functionality.

Nowadays, more and more buildings are being constructed from various types of modern materials. Many works have been written about these materials, which primarily focus on the influence of their properties on the thermal and acoustic insulation of, for example, building walls. However, there are very few publications analyzing the influence of construction materials on the dynamic properties of building structures and their vibration behavior.

Introduction: The sinus node (SN) is the main pacemaker site of the heart, located in the upper right atrium at the junction of the superior vena cava and right atrium. The precise morphology of the SN in the human heart remains relatively unclear especially the SN microscopical anatomy in the hearts of aged and obese individuals. In this study, the histology of the SN with surrounding right atrial (RA) muscle was analyzed from young non-obese, aged non-obese, aged obese and young obese individuals.
Introduction: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is a leading bariatric surgery globally. One-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB), a modification of RYGB, ranks as the third most common bariatric procedure in Poland. While clinical trials show that OAGB outcomes are comparable to those of RYGB regarding weight loss, remission of comorbidities, and hormonal impact, there is limited data on long-term outcomes and complications.

Background: Mean arterial pressure (MAP) can be used to evaluate macro-circulatory perfusion while serum lactate concentration is a marker of tissue perfusion. It is important to note that the primary objective of initial medical interventions is to restore microcirculatory perfusion rather than focusing solely on macro-hemodynamics.

Aims: We aimed to investigate the prognostic value of the combination of MAP and serum lactate levels measured on admission to the hospital in relation to patients' 30-day survival rate in patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI).

Article Synopsis
 • The study investigates the significance of serum sodium and chloride ion differences (SCD) as a potential early marker for prognosis in patients experiencing myocardial infarction.
 • Analyzed data from 594 patients showed that lower SCD correlated with higher mortality rates within 30 days post-treatment, especially among those with severe heart failure (Killip class ≥3).
 • The findings suggest that monitoring SCD levels may help identify patients at greater risk of mortality after myocardial infarction, potentially guiding treatment decisions.

Article Synopsis
 • Bariatric surgery is an effective treatment for severe obesity, and this study explores whether the duodenal microbiota composition affects the success rates of such surgeries.
 • The study involved 32 patients whose duodenal biopsies were examined before surgery, and outcomes were evaluated at 6 and 12 months post-operation, revealing differences in microbiota between successful and unsuccessful cases.
 • Results indicated that certain bacteria like Roseburia and Arthrobacter were linked to unsuccessful surgeries, while others like Prevotella and Megasphaera were associated with successful outcomes, suggesting microbiota could help predict surgery success.

Article Synopsis
 • The study systematically reviewed and compared autologous breast reconstruction (ABR) and implant-based breast reconstruction (IBR) for breast cancer treatment, examining multiple databases for relevant studies.
 • It found that patients generally reported higher aesthetic satisfaction and overall treatment satisfaction with ABR compared to IBR, although both procedures had similar safety profiles and complication rates.
 • However, ABR was associated with significantly higher costs, highlighting the need for careful consideration of both methods' benefits and drawbacks in clinical decision-making.

Background Information: In recent years the composition of gut microbiome has been linked to development of several diseases. The goal of the following study was to establish whether it is connected to the outcome of bariatric surgery. The objective was to analyze the oral and gut microbiota of patients suffering from morbid obesity who underwent laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB).

Background: The impact of COVID-19 on the outcome of patients with MI has not been studied widely. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between concomitant COVID-19 and the clinical course of patients admitted due to acute myocardial infarction (MI).

Methods: There was a comparison of retrospective data between patients with MI who were qualified for coronary angiography with concomitant COVID-19 and control group of patients treated for MI in the preceding year before the onset of the pandemic.

Unlabelled: Many (inter)national standards exist to evaluate the resistance of mortar and concrete to carbonation. When a carbonation coefficient is used for performance comparison of mixtures or service life prediction, the applied boundary conditions during curing, preconditioning and carbonation play a crucial role, specifically when using latent hydraulic or pozzolanic supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs). An extensive interlaboratory test (ILT) with twenty two participating laboratories was set up in the framework of RILEM TC 281-CCC 'Carbonation of Concrete with SCMs'.

Reduction of CO emissions associated with cement production is challenging in view of the increasing cement demand and the fact that major part of the emissions originates from the main raw material used - limestone - which can be only to extremely low amount substituted. A Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) approach based on mineralization of fines derived from concrete appears to be a viable alternative to reduce these emissions. The CO sequestration and the reactivity of the obtained carbonated recycled fines is experimentally demonstrated for lab as well as industrial materials for different mineralization conditions.

The influence of CaO/SiO molar ratio of calcium aluminosilicate glasses on resulting structure and reactivity was investigated. Chemical compositions of glasses were chosen to mimic the composition of the fly ash and slag amorphous phase. Understanding the reactivity of these materials is of high importance allowing further development of the composite cements to limit the environmental footprint of cement industry.

Introduction And Objectives: Baclofen is a drug used mainly to treat muscle spasticity. Its overdose can lead to life-threatening clinical symptoms, including acute respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of selected clinical symptoms associated with baclofen poisoning comparing to an ingested dose.

There are only few reports in the medical literature about side effects and toxicity of horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum). We report a 15-year-old woman who was admitted to the hospital because of symptoms including: vomiting, dyspnea, burning in the nose and throat, and syncope, after intranasal snuff of powdered horse chestnut seeds. Laboratory tests showed no abnormalities.

Dextromethorphan (DXM) is a derivative of codeine with an antitussive properties. Acute poisonings with this drug are related to serious, often life-threatening clinical symptoms. In the last decade the number of DXM poisonings increased and the problem was particularly noticeable among adolescents.

Unlabelled: In the last decade we have observed a considerable increase in nonmedical usage of dextromethorphan (DXM) among young age groups, especially school children between 13 and 16 yrs. We analysed the "trip reports" after use of DXM, available on a website: www.hyperreal.

Unlabelled: The number of patients admitted to toxicological units due to acute liver failure (ALF) and acute-on-chronic liver failure (AoChLF) has been increasing in recent years. Various methods of extracorporeal liver support have been described in this paper, with particular emphasis on modified single pass albumin dialysis (SPAD).

Conclusions: 1.
