Using Audit to Improve End-of-Life Care in a Tertiary Cancer Centre.

High-quality end-of-life care (EoLC) is a critical yet often underemphasised component of oncology care. Several shortcomings in the delivery of EoLC for oncology patients in our centre during the COVID-19 pandemic were identified in our initial 2021 audit. In 2022, we introduced a care of dying patients proforma, an EoLC quality checklist, targeted education and training for staff, and an expanded end-of-life (EoL) committee.

Feasibility, Acceptability, and Utility of Remote Patient-Reported Outcomes Monitoring in Patients With Lung Cancer: A Moovcare© Study.

Introduction: Remote symptom monitoring using electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePROs) during cancer care provides clinical benefits. We assessed the feasibility, acceptability, and utility of a web application (Moovcare®) for lung cancer care.

Materials And Methods: In this single-site study (NCT05011890), patients with lung cancer (n = 41) were enrolled to 6 months of weekly symptom reporting using Moovcare®.

The Pleiotropic Effect of ANRIL in Glaucoma and Cardiovascular Disease.

: The INK4 locus at chromosome 9p21.3, encoding CDKN2A, CDKN2B and the long non-coding RNA CDKN2B-AS1 (ANRIL), has been implicated in multiple diseases, including glaucoma and cardiovascular disease. ANRIL plays a critical role in gene regulation, inflammation and cell proliferation, contributing to disease susceptibility through shared molecular mechanisms.

Missense variants in cause myo-tubulinopathies.

Tubulinopathies encompass a wide spectrum of disorders resulting from variants in genes encoding α- and β-tubulins, the key components of microtubules. While previous studies have linked or dominantly inherited missense variants to neurodegenerative phenotypes, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, frontotemporal dementia, hereditary spastic ataxia, and more recently, an isolated report of congenital myopathy, the full phenotypic and genotypic spectrum of -related disorders remains incompletely characterised. In this multi-centre study, we identified 13 novel missense variants in 31 individuals from 19 unrelated families.

Anxiety symptomatology and metabolic functioning are intricately related, with associated mechanisms yet to be fully delineated. Nutritional manipulations may influence these outcomes in a sex-specific manner. This study characterized the interactive effects of the Cerebiome® probiotic and the D12079B-formulated Western diet (WD) on anxiety- and feeding-related behaviors and physiological outcomes in 80 male and female Long-Evans rats born to dams also administered either the probiotic or placebo during gestation and lactation.
