Background: Prior studies have demonstrated that 30-mg twice-daily enoxaparin dosing is inferior to weight-based, anti-Xa-targeted dosing for venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in trauma patients. Despite this, many trauma guidelines continue to support universal low-dose enoxaparin (30 mg twice daily) in patients with traumatic brain injury for fear of expansion of intracranial hemorrhage and adverse neurologic outcomes. We hypothesized that weight-based, anti-Xa-targeted dosing is safe in trauma patients with intracranial hemorrhage.

Classically, C sordellii infection is described as a high mortality process for women of childbearing age. We examined C sordellii infections in our hospital to determine if there have been any changes in prevalence, treatment, or outcome.

Introduction: Patients who suffer from addiction sometimes take illicit substances while in the hospital (in-hospital drug use [IHDU]), which can lead to unnecessary work-up and preventable treatments when symptoms develop. The purpose of this study was to define the frequency and scope of this problem, who it affects, and its impact on the medical system.
Methods: We reviewed all incident reports from our large, urban level 1 trauma center that involved a patient being found with illicit substances in the hospital between January 2020 and January 2023.
Background: Synthetic oxytocin (sOT) is frequently administered during parturition. Studies have raised concerns that fetal exposure to sOT may be associated with altered brain development and risk of neurodevelopmental disorders. In a large and diverse sample of children with data about intrapartum sOT exposure and subsequent diagnoses of two prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders, i.

Atlantoaxial rotatory subluxation (AARS) is a rare outcome of trauma in adults. We present a case of a 38-year-old female who presented with neck pain and stiffness after a mild trauma. On exam the patient had a "cock-robin" position, comparable to acute torticollis.

Method: Maternal labor/delivery and corresponding childbirth records of 172 regionally diverse, heterogeneous children, ages 3 to 25, were examined with respect to 21 potential predictors of later ADHD onset, including 17 selected obstetric complications, familial ADHD incidence, and gender. ADHD diagnosis and history of perinatal Pitocin exposure distinguished groups for comparison.
