Background: Physician departure causes considerable disruption for patients, colleagues, and staff. The cost of finding a new physician to replace the loss coupled with lost productivity as they build their practice can cost as much as $1 million per departure. Therefore, we sought to characterize drivers of departure from practice with the goal of informing retention efforts (with a special emphasis on the connection between electronic health record (EHR)-related stress and physician departure).

Importance: Significant concern has been raised that crisis standards of care policies aimed at guiding resource allocation may be biased against people based on race/ethnicity.

Objective: To evaluate whether unanticipated disparities by race or ethnicity arise from a single institution's resource allocation policy.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This cohort study included adults (aged ≥18 years) who were cared for on a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) ward or in a monitored unit requiring invasive or noninvasive ventilation or high-flow nasal cannula between May 26 and July 14, 2020, at 2 academic hospitals in Miami, Florida.

Effects of Tocilizumab in COVID-19 patients: a cohort study.

Background: Due to the lack of proven therapies, we evaluated the effects of early administration of tocilizumab for COVID-19. By inhibition of the IL-6 receptor, tocilizumab may help to mitigate the hyperinflammatory response associated with progressive respiratory failure from SARS-CoV-2.

Methods: A retrospective, observational study was conducted on hospitalized adults who received intravenous tocilizumab for COVID-19 between March 23, 2020 and April 10, 2020.

Rapid Identification and Investigation of an HIV Risk Network Among People Who Inject Drugs -Miami, FL, 2018.

Prevention of HIV outbreaks among people who inject drugs remains a challenge to ending the HIV epidemic in the United States. The first legal syringe services program (SSP) in Florida implemented routine screening in 2018 leading to the identification of ten anonymous HIV seroconversions. The SSP collaborated with the Department of Health to conduct an epidemiologic investigation.

Restoring unfavorably positioned implants in anterior maxilla: case report.

This article describes a clinical case involving a unique solution to restoring implants placed in an unfavorable, labial location in the anterior maxilla. Background information is provided with regard to avoiding compromised situations from the outset, as well as a discussion of issues of restorability, with an emphasis on dental implants. Different treatment options are explored.
