subspecies () is an emerging environmental pathogen highly adapted to a wide range of niches, from treated water systems to mammalian tissues. On solid media, forms two distinct colony morphologies, smooth transparent (SmT) and smooth opaque (SmO). These colony morphologies are representative of broader differential phenotypic states in which SmT cells are virulent and have high resistance to antibiotics while SmO cells are avirulent, antibiotic-sensitive and grow faster than SmT cells in culture.

We designed a new type of redox-active molecular triad in which two electron-donating dithiafulvene (DTF) groups are connected to a central ferrocene (Fc) hinge unit through phenylene linkers. Three structural isomers of the (DTF)-Fc system were synthesized through Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling followed by phosphite-promoted olefination reactions. The molecular structures and solid-state properties of these compounds were investigated by X-ray single-crystallographic analysis.

Abstract: Acute gastrointestinal (GI) hemorrhage is a common cause for hospital admission that requires prompt diagnosis and multidisciplinary management to optimize clinical outcomes. Acute gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) includes both upper and lower GI tract sources with an extensive list of differential pathologies. This review provides a systematic approach to both upper and lower GIB management, emphasizing initial resuscitation, stabilization, diagnostic evaluation to identify the source, and treatment modalities.

Mentorship is one essential element of faculty development that is traditionally described as a relationship between a senior individual who serves as the mentor for a mentee who is a less experienced individual. Permitting the mentee to select the mentor as a form of informal pairing; providing structured training for mentors and mentees; conducting frequent, in-person sessions; and financially and academically recognizing the mentoring activities will be of mutual benefit to mentors and mentees alike, and beneficial to the organization that the mentors and mentees serve. Mentorship represents a discipline distinct from coaching and sponsorship.
