Background: Children can present a severe post-COVID-19 condition called Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) and regulatory T cells (Tregs) can regulate the immune response during the inflammatory process, serving as an important tool for controlling the immune response.
Objective: To analyze the profile of Tregs in pediatric patients recovering from COVID-19 at two time points: between 2 and 8 months post-infection (visit 1) and between 10 and 15 months post-infection (visit 2).
Methods: This prospective cohort study included a convenience sample divided into two groups: CV1 (COVID-19, n = 67) and MV1 (MIS-C convalescents, n = 9) at visit 1, and CV2 (n = 42) and MV2 (n = 8) at visit 2.
To assess whether Neurovascular Coupling (NVC) status in acute ischemic stroke predicts long-term cognitive impairment, this prospective study included consecutive ischemic stroke patients, without prior cognitive deficits, recruited between September 2021 and August 2022. Transcranial Doppler (TCD) monitoring was performed within 72 hours post-stroke to measure NVC, determined by peak relative increase in cerebral blood velocity (CBv) in the posterior cerebral artery (PCA) during a visual stimulus. View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: To evaluate the available evidence comparing the use of the bedaquiline, pretomanid, linezolid, and moxifloxacin (BPaLM) regimen for 6 months with that of standard-of-care regimens for patients with multidrug-resistant or rifampin-resistant tuberculosis (MDR/RR-TB).
Methods: This was a systematic review of clinical trials comparing the use of the BPaLM regimen with the standard of care in patients with MDR/RR-TB. The main outcome measure was an unfavorable endpoint (a composite of death, treatment failure, treatment discontinuation, loss to follow-up, and recurrence), and secondary outcome measures included adverse events and serious adverse events.
Objectives: Here, we investigated the effects of hyperventilation on acute lung injury (ALI) in spontaneously breathing rats.
Methods: Wistar rats were randomized to receive either intraperitoneal lipopolysaccharides (LPS) or saline, and intravenous infusion of NH4Cl (to induce metabolic acidosis and hyperventilation) or saline. Four groups were established: control-control (C-C), control-hyperventilation (C-HV), LPS-control (LPS-C), and LPS-hyperventilation (LPS-HV).
Cardiac involvement in 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) survivors has been reported frequently. An exacerbated immune response may be the main mechanism of myocardial injury and late cardiac sequelae in this population. We investigated the immune profile in hypertensive and non-hypertensive patients with COVID-19 who developed late cardiac fibrosis and edema, as detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
