Bursting Fracture of Balloon-Expandable Stent and Pseudoaneurysm Formation in the Left Common Iliac Artery and Endovascular Treatment With Graft Stent.

Purpose: To report successful endovascular treatment of a previously implanted balloon-expandable stent bursting fracture with concomitant large pseudoaneurysm formation in the left common iliac artery (LCIA).

Case Report: A 72-year-old man had been previously treated with balloon-expandable stents for severe stenotic lesion in the LCIA and left external iliac artery. Seven years later, the patient complained pain in both lower legs and back.

Oxyresveratrol (OXY) is a naturally occurring polyhydroxylated stilbene that is abundant in mulberry wood (Morus alba L.), which has frequently been supplied as a herbal medicine. It has been shown that OXY has regulatory effects on inflammation and oxidative stress, and may have potential in preventing or curing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Non-pharmacological therapies for sleep disturbances in people with Parkinson's disease: A systematic review.

Aim: To determine the effectiveness of non-pharmacological therapies for sleep disturbances in people with Parkinson's disease (PD).

Background: Sleep disturbances, which are common in people with PD, may diminish their quality of life. Non-pharmacological therapies are preferred over pharmacological therapies for improving sleep quality, owing to fewer adverse effects.

A Bayesian Semiparametric Regression Model for Joint Analysis of Microbiome Data.

The successional dynamics of microbial communities are influenced by the synergistic interactions of physical and biological factors. In our motivating data, ocean microbiome samples were collected from the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf, Monterey Bay at multiple time points and then 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) sequenced. We develop a Bayesian semiparametric regression model to investigate how microbial abundance and succession change with covarying physical and biological factors including algal bloom and domoic acid concentration level using 16S rRNA sequencing data.

Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention of Cardiovascular Toxicity Related to Anti-Cancer Treatment in Clinical Practice: An Opinion Paper from the Working Group on Cardio-Oncology of the Korean Society of Echocardiography.

Cardiovascular (CV) toxicity associated with anti-cancer treatment is commonly encountered and raises critical problems that often result in serious morbidity or mortality. Most cardiac toxicities are related to the cumulative dose of chemotherapy; however, the type of chemotherapy, concomitant agents, and/or conventional CV risk factors have been frequently implicated in CV toxicity. Approximately half of the patients exhibiting CV toxicity receive an anthracycline-based regimen.

Improving Anaphylaxis Care: The Impact of a Clinical Pathway.

Background: Recommended durations of observation after anaphylaxis have been widely variable, with many ranging from 4 to 24 hours. Prolonged durations often prompt admission for ongoing observation.

Sonocrystallization of Interesterified Soybean Oil: Effect of Saturation Level and Supercooling.

Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of supercooling and degree of saturation on lipid sonocrystallization under similar driving force of crystallization. Samples consisting of 100%, 50%, and 20% interesterified soybean oil (IESBO) diluted in high-oleic sunflower oil (HOSFO) were crystallized with and without high-intensity ultrasound (HIU). Two power levels were used by changing the amplitude of vibration of the tip (24 μm and 108 μm of tip amplitude).

However, when chronically used, it is accompanied by side effects, such as, muscle atrophy, diabetes mellitus, and obesity.

Idiopathic restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCMP) has not been fully understood because this disease is difficult to diagnose. The present study aimed to assess the clinical profile and outcome of idiopathic RCMP from a multicenter cohort.This investigation is a retrospective study of consecutive patients with idiopathic RCMP at 10 centers in Korea between 1990 and 2010.

Anticancer Effects of a Korean Herbal Medicine Formula (H9) via AMPK and HER2-PI3K/Akt Signaling in Breast Cancer Cells.

An H9 is a formula of nine medicinal herbs derived from Osuyubujaijung-tang, a traditional Korean prescription for Soeumin constitution. In our previous study, H9 showed anticancer effects against breast cancer and non-small-cell lung cancer. However, the underlying mechanisms of these effects have not yet been elucidated.

Efficacy and tolerability of two different formulations of atorvastatin in Korean patients with hypercholesterolemia: a multicenter, prospective, randomized clinical trial.

Purpose: This study was designed to compare the efficacy and tolerability of the generic formulation (Atorva) and the reference formulation (Lipitor) of atorvastatin, both at a dosage of 20 mg once daily.

Methods: This study was a prospective open-label, randomized controlled study. Hypercholesterolemic patients who had not achieved low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol goals according to the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP-ATP III) guideline were randomized to generic formulation or reference formulation of atorvastatin.

Falls, a fear of falling and related factors in older adults with complex chronic disease.

Aims And Objectives: To identify factors influencing falls and the fear of falling among older adults with chronic diseases in Korea.

Background: The fear of falling and falls in older adults are significant health problems towards which healthcare providers should direct their attention. Further investigation is needed to improve nursing practice specifically decreasing risk of falls and the fear of falling in Korea.

Tumor samples are heterogeneous. They consist of different subclones that are characterized by differences in DNA nucleotide sequences and copy numbers on multiple loci. Heterogeneity can be measured through the identification of the subclonal copy number and sequence at a selected set of loci.

Uncertainty and depression in people with Parkinson's disease: A cross-sectional study.

Adults with chronic disease may experience uncertainty and depression when coping with their illness. This study identifies degrees of uncertainty and depression, as well as factors associated with depression in people with Parkinson's disease. The 120 participants included patients who visited the neurology outpatient department of a tertiary hospital in Seoul and individuals who attended public events managed by the Korean Parkinson's Disease Association.

SIRT1, a Class III Histone Deacetylase, Regulates LPS-Induced Inflammation in Human Keratinocytes and Mediates the Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Hinokitiol.

Skin inflammation is a response of the immune system to infection and injury. In this study, we report that hinokitiol, a tropolone-related natural compound that exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties in various cell types, can modulate the inflammatory responses of primary human keratinocytes challenged with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Hinokitiol treatment inhibited LPS-mediated up-regulation of proinflammatory factors including tumor necrosis factor alpha, IL-6, and prostaglandin E (PGE).
