Heart failure (HF) is a complex clinical syndrome that represents one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in developed nations. It is well established that every HF-related hospital admission leads to worsened quality of life for the patient and their caregiver and also imposes a significant financial burden on society. Therefore, reducing hospital admissions for this population has emerged as a critical tactic over the past decades.

Cancer therapy-induced hypertension (HTN) is an increasingly recognized complication associated with a wide range of anticancer agents, including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitors, proteasome inhibitors, tyrosine kinase inhibitors, and alkylating agents. The pathogenesis of HTN in this setting is multifactorial, involving mechanisms such as endothelial dysfunction, nitric oxide (NO) suppression, sympathetic nervous system activation, and vascular remodeling. Additional factors, including paraneoplastic syndromes, poorly controlled pain, mood disturbances, and overlapping cardiovascular risk factors like obesity and diabetes, further contribute to the complexity of diagnosis and management.

Objective: To evaluate the risk factors associated with asthma in children hospitalized at Hospital Belen de Trujillo.
Materials And Methods: An analytical study of retrospective cases and controls was carried out in which 258 clinical histories of children between 5 to 14 years of age who were hospitalized in the Hospital Belen de Trujillo (HBT) during the period 2015-2019 were included, which were grouped into 129 histories of children who had been hospitalized for asthma (cases) and 129 histories of children hospitalized for a different cause (controls). The frequency distribution will be calculated, the Chi-square statistical test will be used, the odds ratio will be obtained and the 95% confidence interval will be calculated; finally, a multivariate analysis will be performed by means of logistic regression to determine whether the influence of other variables generates a greater risk of developing asthma in children.
Purpose Of Review: Hypertension is a common comorbidity in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) on dialysis, contributing significantly to cardiovascular disease and increased mortality. Managing hypertension in this population is complex due to the frequent occurrence of resistant hypertension. This review highlights the recent updates in hypertension management for these patients, especially considering new guidelines and therapeutic options.

Introduction: Congenital heart disease (CHD) affects 1 % of all live births globally, with critical CHD (CCHD) requiring early intervention to avoid neonatal mortality. To date, CHD-related mortality within the first year of life and its associated factors have not been studied in Peru.
Methods: This is an observational secondary analysis using the Peruvian National Computerized System of Deaths, data from 2017 to 2021.
Introduction: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death globally, including the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region. However, limited research has been conducted on the burden of CVD in this region. Our study aims to investigate the burden of CVD and related risk factors (RFs) in the LAC.

As the disease progresses, it can lead to end-stage renal disease, necessitating dialysis or kidney transplantation. However, access to these life-saving treatments is often limited by geographic, financial, and resource constraints, underscoring the importance of public awareness and interest.

This case report describes a 17-year-old male with sparse hair and cognitive difficulties who was diagnosed with ED in childhood. A multidisciplinary evaluation with dermatology, neurology, and dentistry revealed characteristic clinical features, and the histopathological diagnosis was confirmed via punch biopsy.

The majority of affected patients are admitted with signs and symptoms of congestion. Despite the initial enthusiasm, traditional remote monitoring strategies focusing primarily on weight gain failed to improve clinical outcomes.

Introduction: In a virtual setting at a private university in Lima, Peru, 277 medical students participated in a study in 2021 during the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Objective: The aim was to investigate how information and communication technologies (ICTs) were utilized as educational aids in their field.
Results: The findings showed a high level of satisfaction with ICT resources, especially among female students (54%).
Mitral valve surgery (MVS), with repair preferred to replacement, is a common procedure for the treatment of severe primary mitral regurgitation related to leaflet prolapse. Structural complications after MVS include left ventricular outflow obstruction, paravalvular leak and atrial septal defect. Intraoperative transoesophageal echocardiography and predischarge transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) specifically screen for these complications.

Plexiform neurofibromas are benign tumors that arise from neuronal cells and are commonly associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) patients. However, the occurrence of plexiform neurofibromas in the pharyngeal region is extremely rare. In this particular case, we report the successful diagnosis of a retropharyngeal plexiform neurofibroma in an adult male patient without a history of neurofibromatosis.

Aortic valve calcification, measured by computed tomography (CT), is guideline-endorsed to aid in such cases. The performance of different CT-derived aortic valve areas (AVAs) is less well studied.

There is a growing interest in the potential of targeted therapies to improve outcomes in patients with coexisting HFrEF and NAFLD. This manuscript reviews current and potential therapies for patients with coexisting HFrEF and NAFLD.

Symptomatic congestion is the most common reason for patients to seek medical attention, and management often requires intravenous (IV) diuretic administration in the hospital setting. Typically, the number of admissions increases as the disease progresses, not only impacting patient survival and quality of life but also driving up healthcare expenditures.

Abnormalities affecting the physical properties of blood have been implicated in the pathogenesis of various disorders, although the exact mechanistic links between hemorheology and clinical disease manifestations remain poorly understood. Often overlooked in current medical practice, perhaps due to the promises offered in the molecular and genetic era, the physical properties of blood which remain a valuable and definitive indicator of circulatory health and disease.

Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional study of 221 sexually active HIV-infected women ages 40 to 59 years, based on a secondary analysis of a three-hospital survey in Lima, Perú. We classified menopausal status according to Stages of Reproductive Aging Workshop criteria (STRAW+10); this exposure variable was categorized as binary (non-postmenopausal and postmenopausal) and-for exploratory analysis-as multinomial (pre-, peri-, and postmenopausal).
Hypercalcemia has a variety of causes, with primary hyperparathyroidism and malignancies being the most frequently reported. We present the case of a patient presenting with chronic abdominal pain, constipation, and weight loss who was found to have hypercalcemia. The patient was initially diagnosed with colonic actinomycosis, but further investigations revealed an intra-abdominal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).

This is the first report of HMC with post-axial polydactyly complicated with acute intestinal obstruction in Peru. It raises importance on prenatal diagnosis, management and complications of HMC.
