Introduction: Recovery Colleges (RCs) exist in 28 countries and across five continents. The concept of recovery and recovery-oriented care has become widespread internationally and embedded in policy documentation and mental health services. As a result, Recovery Colleges, which focus on adult learning and co-production, have now developed a global presence, but many psychiatrists are unfamiliar with this intervention.

Objectives: Advance Choice Documents (ACDs) have been recommended for inclusion in new mental health legislation for England and Wales based on evidence they reduce compulsory psychiatric admission, with particular benefit for Black people. As Black people disproportionately experience compulsory psychiatric admission in the UK, our aim was to explore potential barriers and enablers to effective ACD implementation for Black people with previous experience of compulsory admission.

Methods: Six stakeholder workshops and one consensus workshop were held with: Black service users who had previously been involuntarily admitted, carers/supporters of Black service users, and mental health staff.

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how critical discourse analysis (CDA) frameworks can be used in cross-cultural mental health recovery research. CDA is a qualitative approach that critically appraises how language contributes to producing and reinforcing social inequalities. CDA regards linguistic productions as reflecting, consciously or unconsciously, the narrators' understandings of, or attitudes about, phenomena.

Background: Advance Choice Documents (ACDs) have been recommended for use in England and Wales based on evidence from trials that show that they can reduce involuntary hospitalisation, which disproportionately affects Black African and Caribbean people. Our aim was therefore to develop and test ACD implementation resources and processes for Black people who have previously been involuntarily hospitalised and the people that support them.

The formation of pathological bone deposits within soft tissues, termed heterotopic ossification (HO), is common after trauma. However, the severity of HO formation varies substantially between individuals, from relatively isolated small bone islands through to extensive soft tissue replacement by bone giving rise to debilitating symptoms. We present a new noncontact methodology to excite and detect ultrasonic waves in rocks under in situ pressure and temperature conditions. Optical windows in the side of a pressure vessel allow the passage of a laser source and a receiver for noncontact laser ultrasonic measurements. A heating mantle controls the temperature, and a rotational stage inside the vessel makes it possible to obtain measurements as a function of angle.

It is estimated that 30% of all genes in the mammalian cells are regulated by microRNA (miRNAs). The most relevant miRNAs in a cellular context are not necessarily those with the greatest change in expression levels between healthy and diseased tissue. Differentially expressed (DE) miRNAs that modulate a large number of messenger RNA (mRNA) transcripts ultimately have a greater influence in determining phenotypic outcomes and are more important in a global biological context than miRNAs that modulate just a few mRNA transcripts.

We have produced silver glyconanoparticles for the sensitive (56 ng mL ), low volume and rapid detection of cholera toxin B-subunit (CTB) in synthetic freshwater (simulating the ion compositions of natural waters in which CTB could be found). This is achieved by monitoring the changes in surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) intensity of a Raman reporter bound to the glyconanoparticle surface. The particles selectively aggregate upon interaction with CTB, causing an increase in the measured SERS signal.

Lectin-functionalized silver nanoparticles have been successfully designed for use as molecular imaging agents to investigate carbohydrate-lectin interactions at the surface of mammalian cells, using surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). Carbohydrate-lectin interactions are key to many cellular processes and are responsible for controlling an array of cellular interactions. In this study, lectin-functionalized silver nanoparticles were used to detect the expression of carbohydrate species at the cellular interface.

An on/off SERS aggregation system has been designed to investigate carbohydrate-lectin interactions. Detection of the lectin ConA was achieved at pico molar levels. Discrimination was also demonstrated between two different carbohydrate moieties demonstrating the specific interaction between the carbohydrate and specific protein present.
