Background: The placement of an esophageal self-expandable metal stent (SEMS) is an effective palliative treatment for inoperable malignant esophageal stricture. However, despite successful stent placement, some patients continue to experience persistent dysphagia. We aimed to evaluate the predictive factors of clinical outcomes after endoscopic SEMS placement for malignant esophageal stricture.

Objectives: Duodenal neuroendocrine tumors are increasingly identified incidentally during screening endoscopy. While surgical resection is standard, the role of endoscopic resection, particularly for grade 1 and 2 tumors, remains under discussion. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and outcomes of diagnostic endoscopic resection in grade 1 or 2 duodenal neuroendocrine tumors.

Cronkhite-Canada syndrome (CCS) is a rare, non-hereditary disorder characterized by diffuse, non-neoplastic gastrointestinal polyposis along with ectodermal abnormalities, such as alopecia, skin hyperpigmentation, and nail dystrophy. It typically affects individuals aged >50 years and can lead to severe complications, including protein-losing enteropathy, chronic diarrhea, and malnutrition, if not diagnosed early. We report the case of a 68-year-old male who presented with a 2-month history of diarrhea, weight loss, and hair loss.

An acidic environment, gastric emptying, and abundant blood supply inhibit bacterial infection of the stomach. can evade these defense mechanisms and is a well-known etiological contributor to chronic gastritis. Non- bacterial infections such as acute phlegmonous gastritis, gastric syphilis, gastric tuberculosis, and gastric actinomycosis are uncommon and owing to their nonspecific findings, are diagnostically challenging in patients without a high index of clinical suspicion.

Objectives: Although phytobezoars are the most common type of gastric bezoar, a standardized treatment method has not been adopted.

Methods: In this study, we evaluated patient clinical features and treatment outcomes following the use of different treatment methods, with a focus on the efficacy of carbonated beverage consumption. A review of medical charts and endoscopic reports revealed 15 cases of gastric phytobezoars from September 2008 to May 2016.

Despite advancements in diagnostic techniques, the accurate identification and management of localized terminal ileitis or ulcers (LTIU) remains challenging, with a wide range of associated diseases presenting with similar clinical and endoscopic features. This retrospective observational study aimed to determine the etiology and discrimination of various diseases in patients with symptomatic LTIU. Data on demographics, clinical manifestations, and endoscopic findings were collected and analyzed statistically using descriptive and inferential methods, including frequency analysis and chi-square tests.

Currently, endoscopic resection is recommended for gastric neuroendocrine tumors (G-NETs) < 10 mm. However, a larger G-NETs can also be resected endoscopically. Here, we evaluated the feasibility of diagnostic endoscopic resection of G-NETs.

Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the precision of preoperative colonoscopic tattooing and intraoperative colonoscopic tumor localization in determining distal surgical margins for left-sided colorectal cancer surgery.

Methods: This retrospective study included 30 patients who underwent laparoscopic colorectal surgery, preoperative colonoscopic tattooing, and intraoperative colonoscopic localization for colorectal cancer at our center between July 2020 and March 2024. Clinical data were collected, and the precision of these methods was assessed by measuring the differences between the target resection margin and the actual pathological resection margin.

Background/aims: The clinical outcomes and optimal treatment of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in elderly patients are unclear. This study aimed to assess the clinical outcomes of ESCC in patients aged ≥ 80 years.

Methods: Medical records of patients diagnosed with ESCC between December 2008 and February 2024 were retrospectively reviewed.

Duodenal neuroendocrine tumors are relatively rare subepithelial tumors that arise from cells of the neuroendocrine system. Small duodenal neuroendocrine tumors can be treated endoscopically because of their low potential for metastasis. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of conventional and underwater endoscopic mucosal resection for duodenal neuroendocrine tumors.

Article Synopsis
  • * A total of 149 dilatations were studied, revealing a stricture recurrence rate of 72.5% and that dilation up to 16.5 mm resulted in the lowest recurrence rate (41.7%) and longest dilation-free period (490 days).
  • * The findings suggest that dilation up to 16.5 mm is safer and more effective compared to 18 mm, as it shows lower rates of stricture recurrence and bleeding following the procedure.

A 22-year-old woman with a 1-month history of shortness of breath that was treated as a case of tuberculosis and pulmonary embolism was referred to the authors' hospital. Because of the hemodynamic instability in this patient, venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) was administered in the intensive care unit. She underwent a pulmonary embolectomy for the treatment of progressive circulatory collapse secondary to a pulmonary embolism.
